Yep. Had no reason to know how to, and really still don't. Only reason I didn't just drive it to a shop and have it changed was because we had been out of down for 3 days and it was completely flat.

Just last night I was at pub trivia and there was a picture round. I had no idea who the guy in the cowboy hat was. My friend said "That's Brad Paisley." I had what I guess was the wrong response: "Who is Brad Paisley?"

 

Also... dogs. Some dog will be walking down the street and one of my friends will say "That's a 'So-and-So Breed'." Other than maybe a golden retriever, I couldn't tell you the first thing about dog breeds.

 

Guns. Outside of "rifle" or "revolver" or "bazooka" I really can't get much more specific than that.

That's funny, people often ask me what my all-time favorite Final Jeopardy category would be. I don't have to think about it for a second, it would definitely be "Dog Breeds". I could have an insurmountable lead heading into the final question and I'd risk everything if "Dog Breeds" was the category.

I was joking. Mostly. But I get it. It's one of those things that's good to have in your cultural vocabulary if you have the time and are of the inclination, but I'd hardly describe it as critical.

I don't know much about makes and models of cars. Every guy I know can tell you the make, model and even the year of just about any car. I'm lucky if I can tell you it's a car. :idunno:

I'm decent with newer cars. But being able to glance at a classic car and knowing if it's a '53 or '54 is a skill I don't have, nor do I want.

^HT, in most instances, I'm going to be close enough to an auto shop or have someone in the car with me that knows how, so why waste the time?

 

And yes, the girlfriend does know how to change a flat so I can always just have her do it, and supervise.

I learned a LONG time ago that it was as whole lot easier - if more expensive - to know a good mechanic, a good plumber, a good carpenter and a good electrician. Even better if they're all rolled up into one or two buddies.

I'm with RM about being clueless on economics. Like Habib, I know little about the arts, but would love to learn. I usually chose a topic each summer to explore in depth and that might be mine this year.
