Montgomery County 53 Mason County 49

Interesting quote from the Indians' coach at the end of the article:

The win is Montgomery's second straight against Mason. The Indians snapped the Royals' 23-game series winning streak last season on Fruth's free throw with no time showing on the Fieldhouse clock.

That could have been considered an upset. This year, Montgomery is widely considered one of the best two teams in the 10th Region.

That doesn't mean Wise, a former Georgetown College teammate of O'Hearn's in his first season patrolling the Montgomery sideline, is ready to give the Indians the upper hand in the series.

"I'm not gonna lie, one of the things we talked about when I first got the job was, let's step up and be like Mason County," Wise said. "For 25 years they've kinda ruled the roost here in the 10th Region, so we would like to get on that level. All we did was take a small step tonight. That's all we did."

And I agree. There have been other schools that have been in contention some years, but they have always been in contention with Mason County. When I played in the 70s, it was Mason, Bourbon, Harrison, and Bath. I am hoping that Montgomery County is getting ready for a long run of top teams in the region. I see several young players that are playing up and getting valuable experience.

What kind of crowd did this ge attract? I would assume close to capacity????

I would highly doubt it was even close to capacity.

I missed this one by picking Mason. Black did what I thought he'd do (not many teams have an answer for him) but didn't stop Pruitt which I thought they would do. 10th still wide open with Clark a prohibitive favorite.

Not close at all. I think, after talking to some people at another game, high school could not compete with the Cats last night.

Black was a non factor in the second half. 1-7 shooting for 3 points. He obviously is not in playing shape as of yet. However, he was a stud in the first half on 6-8 shooting.

And there you have it. Give him another three weeks and there should be a big difference.

And for this reason, I think Coach Wise challenged some people to step up their game on defense in the second half. Allowing someone to go 6/8 in the first half can cause a coach to get possibly a little irritated. Or that is what I was always told! LOL

It would be hard to get capacity in this gym unless it is the region tournament.
