January 8, 201214 yr It seems that we might be in for a wild ride this week. Almost all of the models, weather models that is , are showing a storm forming for the middle to end of the up coming week. We might see everything from thunderstorms to a snow storm. There is now even a small threat of severe thunderstorms with an isolated tornado possible. The rain could start as early as tonight in some southern parts of Kentucky. January 8, 201214 yr Author While it hasn't been mentioned much but, ice is a possibility. Especially with the temperature shifts they are predicting.
January 8, 201214 yr nWo, are we ever going to get any winter weather this year? Nothing to amount to anything in the whole country so far, very, very, weird. Has there ever been a complete winter with temps like this and no snow? The forecast I have been seeing are more towards the 60 degree mark mid-week with nary a mention of any snow coming at all, where are you seeing snow?
January 8, 201214 yr I saw back in early December they were forecasting a warmer and wetter season for the Midwest.

The forecast I have been seeing are more towards the 60 degree mark mid-week with nary a mention of any snow coming at all, where are you seeing snow?If you look at the National Weather Service sites they are not now saying anything about the snow or cold temp. They usually won't say much about it until a couple of days before the event. Just about every weather forecaster I have watched have mentioned the possibility of the snow. They definitely say the cold temps are coming. I've looked at some of the same forecast models, while I don't have their knowledge, they plainly show something happening Wednesday night into Thursday and maybe into Friday. The models are for the most part all coming into agreement about the cold temps and snow. Chris Bailey is also going as far as saying their maybe another storm late next weekend. I saw back in early December they were forecasting a warmer and wetter season for the Midwest.True but, Kentucky is considered in the Ohio Valley when it comes to weather. The main thing that is causing the abnormal temperatures is that the jet stream has stayed to our north. This has not allowed the arctic air to come in from Canada. One last thing, the lack of snow in the the Midwest and upper Mississippi Valley also has aided the unusually warm temperatures. The normal snow pack would aid in cooling the air.
January 8, 201214 yr Weather forecasters for the Northern Kentucky area are so bad year in and year out all season long it is pathetic. The forecast for today was very cloudy and upper 40's, the sun has been shining bright since early morning here in Mason County and my car says temp is 53. Didn't Farmers Almanac and Chris Bailey, among others predict an early and often snow this season, similiar to last season. I know I read that on WKYT's web site or somewhere back in November. The weather we have been having this winter is scary when thinking about what may happen in spring and summer, wish people that keep hating on snow, etc. would realize that.
January 8, 201214 yr I am praying no snow or ice, please. Not this week. :eek:I would like to second that emotion! I need this to be a smooth week in every way possible.
January 8, 201214 yr This will be my eldest teen's first winter as a driver. I think her car will stay parked on more days than she would like!

It said that we should be on the look out in January. That is one reason I was keeping an eye on it. Mainly for my job. I hope that this warm weather doesn't continue because you are so right about the severe storms in the spring and summer.
January 8, 201214 yr How does the warmer Winter impact what weather we have in the Spring and Summer? I do know that it can cause an increase in pests like mosquitos due to nests not being affected by freezing.
January 8, 201214 yr Author How does the warmer Winter impact what weather we have in the Spring and Summer? I do know that it can cause an increase in pests like mosquitos due to nests not being affected by freezing. It would quite possibly mean more strong severe thunderstorms, with an increase in the likelihood of super-cell thunderstorms that would produce more powerful tornadoes. January 8, 201214 yr Author This is from Chris Bailey's site. This is a close up of what the European Model is showing. Accord to Mr. Bailey, that is snow wrapping around behind the low pressure systems late Wednesday into Thursday morning. It also shows the weekend system he was talking about earlier. Also I was reading on his blog and he says some forecasters swear by the GFS Model. That explains why some are still showing the warmer temps. It is the only model that has not been showing the arctic blast. But now it is starting to aline with the other models.
