ESPN Article on Mike Brown

Featured Replies

Since people felt the need to post the only article putting Mike Brown down for doing the buy one get one free deal. I feel like it is only fair to post one of the few articles who talked about how he did a good job with this.

BENGALS: The Bengals announced they are lowering ticket prices for more than 14,500 seats next season, which is about 27 percent of the capacity of Paul Brown Stadium. There won't be a price increase for the remaining seats, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. This comes days after the Bengals sold out the regular-season finale with a special promotion of buy one ticket and get one free. Season tickets for 2012 can be purchased for as low as $40 per game. Before this week's sellout, 10 of the past 12 Bengals home games had been blacked out.

Hensley's slant: The "buy one, get one free" decision was a nice gesture. The price decrease is a sign that the organization is committed to getting the fan base to show up again. It's hard not to be impressed by the Bengals' choices on and off the field over the past eight months. Mike Brown is the owner of the year in the AFC North this season.

Hensley nailed it right on the head with this one. Now letting the bashing of me for posting this begin! :D

So basically people who have not been drinking the Kool-aid on hating every little thing Mike Brown does, see's that he actually has done a few things right recently. It's a gesture that usually is known as a good thing to do and is just silly for people to say otherwise when it comes to this.

Good business move. Make people think you care and sell a ton of $8 beers. Nothing to see here and has zero bearing on the horrible decisions in the past and horrible decisions in the future.

:thumb: Just padding his pockets more. He knows if he doesn't it will be a repeat of this season. Smart business move nothing more.

Just showing how people who have no bias, actually see it is a good move. He is FINALLY doing what other owners do in other sports. People complained how he doesn't do anything to try to get fans there. Yet he is doing it now, and people still complain. Yes Mike Brown has MESSED UP ALOT as owner of the Bengals. He has never done to much to try to help the fans, or the team. However for once he is actually doing what people have wanted him to do, it helps the fans and the team. It is exactly the same as when the Reds have discount days, bobblehead doll days, one dollar hot dog days, etc. It was all to get people in the stadium, and no one complained about that and how it was just for them to make money. Which was the same reason the Reds do it too. However finally Mike Brown is at least learning that, so once again it is silly to say stuff about this too. I am fully convinced now that the Bengals could win two Super Bowls in a row, but people still would find things to complain about with him. This shows even if he completely changes his ways, it won't matter. People will find ways to say well it's still not good what he is doing. There is plenty of things to complain about, but this is not one of them.

Shoot. I was hoping it was the Lakers Mike Brown.

It's true. However why don't people say that about the Reds owners then? Especially when they took over and had all kinds of days and things they did to try to get people at the game. When they do it, it was abour caring about the fans and all that junk. Even though realistically it was for the same reason he is doing it. The Reds owners are cheap and won't go spend lots of money either, and try to find ways to bargain to have good yount talent, instead of paying money to get top guys. The Reds owners hated 1/4th filled stadiums, so they did things to get people in the stadium to still make money while not being top spenders either. So it is stupid to complain or say stuff about how it's still selfish for him, when people praised the Reds when they did it, when they did it for the same reasons.

Honestly that is why I posted it like that, I knew some people may look just because some would think if the Lakers Brown haha.

Dude, quit being so gullible. He made one right move, the last game of the season. He obviously thought that Bengals fans would cave, and after 6 of 7 games with lame attendance, knew it was time to act. I see it as "desperate times call for desperate measures" not, after 20+ years he is enlightened.

Give me multiple smart moves and I'll start giving him credit. Until then, he's the worst owner in professional sports.

Fooled me. I wanted to see if an article could make me like him.

Because they have been doing it from day one. The continually show love to the fans and appreciate the support. Mike cares about taking every last cent out of their pockets. He is doing damage control at this point.

How do they continually show love to the fans? As you just mentioned the things they do is just for them to make more money. Getting people in the park makes them money. So how is that showing love, since you say it is just about making money for them. Really the only difference is that the Reds had to do it, because it was not like they were selling out or even close to it when they took over. Actually they were flat out terrible, so that was the best way to get people there. Mike Brown didn't have to do anything because his new stadium was still selling out without having to do that. I doubt the Reds would be doing as much if they were like St. Louis, Chicago, etc and sold out most of their games. Now Mike Brown is finally having to do what the Reds had to do to get people in the stadium. There is no difference there at all, the Reds did it to make money too. It wasn't for the love of the fans, it was something they had to do to get people there. Mike Brown has not had to do that to get people there until now. That is the difference people were coming to Bengal games, people were not coming to the Reds. So if Mike Brown was doing it for selfish reasons, so were the Reds and it was not love for the Fans. It was because they had to, or else people wouldn't have came. If you noticed we didn't see quite as much of that from the Reds this year since the attendance started going up from last season.

Futurecoach, your loyalty is admirable. I fully appreciate that trait.

However, trying to say the Reds ownership doesn't get banged when offer specials is a bad comparison.

The NFL only has 8 home games per season. The Bengals are dead last in ticket sales and the only team below 80% of capacity. The 25th team is at 92% capacity. The Bengals are at 72%. The product is so good it's hard to screw up the fan base. Mr. Brown has done the seemingly impossible.

You do agree that this is not a benevolent act by Mike Brown, correct?

Lets also not forget how different the economic make up is for teams in MLB compared to the NFL. All Reds fans know is that this ownership is trying to increase revenue so that they can add to payroll, just to compete with the big boys. Everyone also knows that the NFL has a salary cap and revenue sharing to level the playing field and that the Bengals are at the bottom of the list when it comes to salaries and team expeditures.

For your last sentence. We all have witnessed MANY blackouts by the Bengals since Mike Brown has been the owner, especially during the 90's and early 2000's. We saw a lot of blackouts during this season too. So you all are saying the only reason he is doing this is for selfish reasons. Well if that is the case, then he would have done this many more times through the years. And maybe I am wrong, but I don't believe he has done this before has he? Even during the bad days of the 90's when the Bengals were awful, he still did nothing to try to get fans in the stadium, however you would think he would have based on what you all are saying. People say Mike Brown is all about making money, and actually is a good business man. So he would have been doing things like this all the time if helped him make even more money. Do you see how this goes against everything you all are saying?

It would have made even more sense to do this for a game that was not as important. This game might not have sold out, but probably would have came close since this game meant so much. So why pick this game? Yes it will help him make money, but guess what he has not done this in the past. So it's not hard to see that for once he is doing what many other owners have probably always done. And that is actually doing something to get the fans in the stadium, and most important giving the team a little better chance to win.
