What exactly is different about the world? Is religous extremism new? Why can't the immigration process be made much simpler, the government has their list believe me. It's about 800 pages of very fine print front and back and it takes a millisecond to run a search against it. I do it everyday at work. If you're on the list see you later but if you're not whats wrong with proving who you are, where you came from and requesting citizenship? That process shouldn't take years, it shouldn't really cost any money and you shouldn't need an attorney.

As far as the rest of your post I don't necessarily disagree. Although I think there has to be a limit to the number immirgrants given citizenship every year. You can't just say if you sign up your in. The United States would be overrun and couldn't survive.

If military service was mandatory under the dream act I'd be 100% behind it. Even if it was just for two years of service. I'd let anyone that wants to do a 4 year stint in our military come as long as they had a clean criminal record and weren't linked to terrorist.

 

I agree that the military is an excellent option, but I think adding college educated individuals to the workforce is, also. This young lady s an excellent student and hopes to be a doctor. Additionally, I consider serving in our military to be a very personal choice and one that is not right for everyone.

I really struggle with the girl's situation as she has done nothing wrong. Even though she has benefited from her parent's wrongdoings I don't feel right punishing her. The parents I kind of like UKmustangs idea only I think a fine should be included for the parent's breaking the law. I would allow much of the fine to be worked off with community service.

 

How would you balance enforcing our laws, doing what's fair, given those who have done it legally, and this situation?

75, I think that the Dream Act is a fair solution to the issue of children of illegals. To me, it is the right and honorable thing to do. I like UKMF's idea for the parents. I would have no problem with a fine and very strict requirements being put in place for those individuals to get and keep citizenship. I don't think that coming to the US was easy for many of our immigrant ancestors and I don't think that we have to provide an easy track now. However, we do need to provide one that is possible.

I believe that any business owner caught employing an illegal alien should be fined heavily.

 

Your mistake was assuming that just because I'm not "far right" then I MUST be anti-business or anti-business owner(same thing).

 

I have worked with small business owners for years and respect the ones that do it right to the highest degree. God bless them for what they do and provide this country.

Thank you for the complement. I have been a small business owner all my life. I've never hired illegals although I've lost numerous job bids to business owners that do. And I always pay employees scale wages.. Many times my employees wind up making more than me on a job..

How funny you should ask that. My grandfather was a Cherokee Indian. The US Government took everything away from them and moved them from pillar to post to keep them out of the growing US. I also have some ancestry of Irish decent who did arrive here illegally.

This is a high profile case of what is certainly a wide spread issue - the coming of age of 'institutional illegal permanent residents'. The 'just deport them' approach would not seem to be a reasonable or possibly even humane thing in this case and the thousands like it.

 

It also points out how much entities have been enablers for years - education institutions, employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens, etc. Whether they turned a blind eye, ignored the laws, or openly encouraged illegal activity such as providing false documentation - they now have to be held accountable.
