That is not the case for all families, my family for example were dirt poor Scottish immigrants trying to scratch out a better life for themselves. This is the kind of people this country is trying to keep out now. Three or four generations later my family has produced quality productive citizens that are well educated and contributing to society in to many fields to list. Why does this portion of the American dream have to cease to exist?

You have to be careful in looking at such a small sample and making a determination as to the CAUSE.

 

Alabama's UE rate has been dropping each month.

 

In addition the state created 9700 jobs mainly in utilities, trade , and transportation.

 

Also AL has a lot of seasonal workers .

 

We also have to remember that just like when the White House claims positive signs in the UE situation that numbers do not always tell the full story.

 

So, it's too early to claim any bill that is one month old had an impact.

I will not be surprised to se this young woman in the gallery at the State of the Union address and will be one of those whose stories get told. Obama can use this story and his new more lax immigration guidelines to win Hispanic votes.

What exactly is different about the world? Is religous extremism new? Why can't the immigration process be made much simpler, the government has their list believe me. It's about 800 pages of very fine print front and back and it takes a millisecond to run a search against it. I do it everyday at work. If you're on the list see you later but if you're not whats wrong with proving who you are, where you came from and requesting citizenship? That process shouldn't take years, it shouldn't really cost any money and you shouldn't need an attorney.

My comments were in regards to the parents. As far as Ms. Reyes is concerned it would be tragic if she is forced to leave.

 

The DREAM Act sounds like a pretty good solution but before I make up my mind I would have to know more about how it would work. Would you have to be in school for it to apply?

I am on my iPad, so I can't easily cut and paste the relevant sections, but reading just the intro here gives you a great insight into the Dream Act. You have to be of good moral character, attended US high schools, be in college or the military, with certain restrictions, to qualify. Also, the part about how this would affect the economy is interesting.

If military service was mandatory under the dream act I'd be 100% behind it. Even if it was just for two years of service. I'd let anyone that wants to do a 4 year stint in our military come as long as they had a clean criminal record and weren't linked to terrorist.
