I have researched the subject tirelessly for the last couple of years and many scientifical studies are showing that the sun has been sending out super high levels of gamma rays and this action is said to climax around solstice of 2012.

Right, but this is the first time in human history in which the solar cycle could effect earth. We've only had satellites up in our orbit for a half of century, gamma ray levels haven't been this high or as high as they are preidicted to be for at least 10,000 years. If the gamma rays are as strong as they are predicting it will basically fry everything in our orbit.

Like some have alluded to, the scriptures say no one will know when the world will end except for the Father....

 

 

With that said, I do believe it is highly possible we see something crazy and perhaps earth changing around this time. Does not have to fall right on Dec. 21 but I think around the same time frame, could be days, weeks, or months we could see something exponentially significant. You guys can make fun of the Mayans and their calandar system all you want but their vast knowledge of space and time is rivaled by almost no one, even us modern humans. Their understanding of the constellations made them able to predict numerous solar occurrences with incredible accuracy. Dec 21. 2012 is said to end their 5th long count calendar cycle. The mayans actually never indicated this date would be a doomsday scenario, but it is the last date in their system. It is said to coincide with many astronomical events, some of which only happen one every 100,000 years.

 

So to me I feel that with everything that is going on in the world right now that it is very possible we see something unique around that time frame. Again, not claiming end of the world or anything like that but it would not suprise me for us to see something that is totally world altering. If a gamma ray is strong enough it could wipe out our entire satellite grid knocking out power, communication, and numerous other vital technologies. The threat of asteroids passing through earths orbit are also going to be at a high during this time. Just so many random occurrences are said to be scientifically possible around this time and many of which are not at this height of concern except for once every 1,000+ years or so. To me its more than just coincidence. I think everyone should wake up and understand there is a chance something dramatic can happen. Even if it's not the end of the world, it could just be the end of the world as we know it.

 

 

As someone said earlier, why couldn't they predict their own demise? I'll believe it when I see it. That being said, I always thought the scene in Deep Impact when Tea Leoni and her father watched the big tsunami from the Atlantic Ocean was awesome. I'd love to see that in person if the Mayans are right as opposed to just too lazy to finish their calendar. Or were eliminated before they finished their calendar.

I would just like to defend myself. I am NOT a fan of Europe (the band, not the continent...much love for the continent ).

For some odd reason the Mayans basically vanished and no one has ever really understood why. There are still few Mayan descendents who live in central America but other than a few astray Mayan farmers most everyone in the civilization mysteriously disappeared before Europeon settlers invaded. The Mayan culture had a vast knowledge of the solar system as well as space and time. How they received this info is topic for much debate. Explorers have found a place in the South Pacific in which they have called Apocolypse Island. They have stated that a statue excavated on the island is a Mayan statue and was ordered by one of the most significant Mayan high priests or rulers. The odd thing about the island is it is hundreds of miles off shore and would be an almost impossible journey in those times one must think. Their theory and research says that the ruler believed he was a god and wanted a place to come back and watch as the apocalypse unfolded. Two major solar events are supposed to occur according to the Mayans and new research and studies claim that this island is basically the perfect spot to witness both events. One of the events is called the transit of Venus, the other is a full Solar Eclipse. Something about the position of the island in accordance to when the events are going to be taking place basically cause this island to be like front row seats for the events. The theories are that the Mayans knew these events were going to happen and their "living god" was to come back to life and take his place on the monument on the island and witness these solar events. So when your talking about the Mayans, you are talking about highly advanced people whether we look at them as such or not.

Not from me, not on that. Not saying the world will come to an end on Dec. 21 2012, but the Mayan Long Count Calendar is different than the calendar and calendar system we use. Leap years or no leap years the 5th Mayan Long Count Calendar is set to end on what would be Dec 21, 2012 to us.

Yeah but The Mayans didn't sit down with a gregorian calender when they were drawing up their long count cycles and say well now lets account for every day on this thing. It's irrelevant, doesn't even matter. Their calender is different than the one the western world has used since the calender was introduced. Their long count cycle ends Dec. 21 2012, estimated from the calender system we use.
