All teams guaranteed two games. If you win your first game you are guaranteed three games.

First team listed is home team.

 

A championship and runner-up trophy will be presented. There will be a 5 person all-tournament team. The top four teams will all nominate one player and the championship team will get two.

 

Great opportunity for our area freshmen teams and obviously a huge undertaking by the good folks at Holy Cross to host such an event.

 

If memory serves me correctly this freshmen tournament has been going on continuously for over 30 years.

I noticed Cov Cath participating. I guess that means they are not having their own Xmas tourney. Seems to me they have been hosting a small one for a number of years as well. Guess that is over now. What will TOG do with his free time now during the holidat season????

I was rather adamant about that last year. It is just extremely frustrating when you work your tail ends off to get those guys to stand in and take those charges when there is no return on their investment other than to be called for a block.

 

With that being said it must be a nightmare finding officials to work all of those freshmen games.

Anyone know how brossart freshman team has played this yr?

Four wins, five losses - A narrow home loss to St. Henry and Holmes. One point and two point overtime losses to Highlands and Grant County on the road, and a blowout loss to Mason County. Wins over Silver Grove, Calvary, Bracken County, and Simon Kenton.

This is one of my favorite tournaments to watch. Always good to see what is in the pipeline for the local schools. I just love watching games at Holy Cross. Yea I know it gets hot, but it is a great atmosphere for hoops.

I will be there on Tuesday and Wednesday but Thursday and Friday I will be with the Varsity in Granville, Ohio.

 

The CovCath Frosh are going into tonight's game (Wed) with Winton Woods with a 8-0 record with victories over Scott 56-22, LexCath 44-41, St. Henry 43-22, Simon Kenton 50-32, Boone County 53-38, Conner 49-20, Lou St. X 38-35 and Campbell County 53-43.

 

BTW to the best of my knowledge the Freshmen Coaches Tourney held at CovCath, well be starting I believe on Saturday February 4th. This tourney has been going on since the early 1970's!

I would say Cov Cath based on the teams I have seen and what I have heard from others. Dixie is also pretty good.

I have seen 6 of the teams this year - Beechwood, St Henry, Holmes, NCC, Brossart, and Dixie.

 

Of that group, Dixie is the best - they are big, strong and can go several players deep. Holmes would be next, while NCC and Brossart will compete well.

Maybe the reason you don't get those calls is because you aren't teaching them to do it correctly.
