Muslim group upset over Lowes pulling ads

"The retail giant stopped advertising on TLC's "All-American Muslim" after a conservative group known as the Florida Family Association complained, saying the program was "propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values."

^From the article. That was Lowe's intentions for pulling the ads, they didn't say/do anything discriminatory, it was merely their reaction regarding the Florida Family Association complaint. The senator from California should have more important issues to deal with, otherwise, his job seems pointless to me.

That show is just another agenda to further promote Islam and probably Sharia Law in America. Every group in America has some kind of dicriminatory story going on. I like how our politicans are trying to strong arm Lowes, I hope Lowes dont buckle and give in.

Since when can a group get mad and try to force someone to sponsor their cause or views.

How is their demand any different than the demand from the group that said to get rid of it?

Lowe's gets to make a decision and live with the consequences. I've got no problem with either group. It's the beauty of America.

I have no problem either, but when politicians start trying to get people to boycott a place because of views, then I have the problem.

Why? They're US citizens and have a voice. They, too, can either gain voters or lose voters. No problem IMO.

Didn't the Founding Fathers encouraging boycotting of British goods during the days leading up to the Revolution? That was the cause of the original tea party. President Jefferson even passed an Embargo Act effectively forcing an American boycott of all British and French items (with disastrous results). So this stuff has been happening for years, just perhaps in a little different form.

I think there is a problem when a PUBLIC servant or elected official...on the payroll... abuses his/her position at the risk of injury to an individual (which is what a Corporation is considered) for no apparent public good (this with the intention that neither of the private interest groups has a legitimate complaint).

I am now more likely to shop at Lowes if they dont back down from threats of boycotts. It is their right to sponsor whatever they want and shouldnt have a politician trying to ruin their business which supports a lot of jobs, not that there is a shortage of jobs in our country anyway according to our current and hopefully former President.

Everyone involved look like fools to me. The group calling for Lowes to pull out, Lowes for pulling out if the decision was based simply on their petition, and the politician for getting involved where he doesn't need to be.

Agreed.

The important thing to remember, at least for me, is that I wasn't going to watch this show anyway... not because it's about Muslims, but because it sounds boring.

So you would support them if they continued supporting the show about the Muslims?

Agreed.

I've seen one and it did move kind of slow.

From the article: Calling the Lowe's decision "un-American" and "naked religious bigotry," Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, told The Associated Press he would also consider legislative action if Lowe's doesn't apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads.

This goes beyond acting as a citizen and protesting or boycotting. It is the government telling a corporation who they must advertise with.
