It was the Brandon Hatton, Brady Hightchew, and McDonald show in the second half.

 

Hatton had 5 at half...finished with 25.

 

Hightchew had 2 at half...finished with 19.

 

McDonald had 7 at half...finished with 22.

How did Fox look?

Not really sure but my guess would be 8 or 9. Newcath struggled to stop Dixie in transition, mainly because of Hatton, but their press was effective. Was a little surprised that Newcath got out and tried to play uptempo tonight. Dixie played stall ball several times with a big lead and I still can't understand why. Newcath had no answer for them when they were getting out and running.

 

Also, the Breds missed quite a few easy baskets and had some really bad turnovers, especially when down 5 with the ball under 2:00 minutes. However credit goes to Dixie for not folding.

How did Fox look?

 

He did alright. Very solid defensively but when Newcath went to the press Hatton was the only one that could break it by himself. He'd have spurts where he would look really good then disappear. He is tough off the dribble though and plays very well off the ball. I know its still early but this was the second time I've seen Dixie and second time he has been in foul trouble.

You can tell Fox has some skills but also had a few unforced errors. He did not live up to his billing tonight, but my guess is that he will still shine as the year goes on.

Hatton is the cream of the crop in NKY. I was so impressed with his off the ball play, not to mention how well he does score. I saw him take control of the team tonight too. Something I never noticed before. The kid can play.

Hats off to the Breds for not quitting. The game seemed to be over but they stepped up. The frosh McDonald played big time tonight. He almost scored at will. Even Stansbury could not stop him. First game out for the Breds and not a bad showing. It may be another 4 OT battle between the two come regional time!

Great game---so many good athletes on the court tonight.

Shocked to see Evan Morse watch the game from the bench tonight?? I know he was injured last year, but thought he might see some minutes. NCC played maybe 8 kids.

What was wrong with Tom Jr.? He was 9th region player of the year in 1983, and had a great career. Played his college ball at Thomas More.

Highchew's smart formula of penetrate, draw foul, stop clock, get to the line, get opposition in foul trouble, repeat, repeat, repeat is a joy to witness. Sure, this game plan is no big secret, but not many in the 9th can execute it like he does, and it seems that many teams forget to patiently build on this game plan early enough in a game for it to be effective. This plan benefits the Breds in more ways than just putting points on the board. Look how many Colonels racked up a lot of fouls and how many times Highchew got to the line to score with the clock stopped. After being down at one point by 18 it almost worked in a game that most team's fans would've hit the exits much earlier, but with Brady in the game, the game is never over 'til it's over. McDonald was a huge factor and is a tremendous asset for the Breds, but Highchew practically single handedly kept this game alive. Congrats to Dixie for always having an answer and showing their dominance. They really have got it together, and their dynamite passing is also a true joy to witness. Even with a cold first half Hatton, their balanced attack can take up the stack even while he's searching for his sweet spot. Of course he found it and he's proved that no one should ever doubt that he would. Even when he's not scoring he does so many things well that still benefits Dixie. Taking nothing away from past 9th Region greatness, there was some serious doggone good high level B-Ball being played tonight in the city of Newport.... Wow....and I mean serious!!! ... It's scary to think what it'll be like later in the season. One more thing... Pike who?

You and me both. I was shocked he didn't see the floor. McDonald was playing very well though so tough to get Evan on the floor.

Was Colin Dupont in the rotation? Another great kid who hits the little white ball very very well.

Yes, he was a nice player on some pretty good NCC teams back in the day. Does he still blow the whistle for games?
