I looked on the CLS website and it says Morrison has been there for 34 years, so he probably was an assistant coach for basketball. Maybe he was the head coach for baseball, although I am not sure about CLS baseball. I don't think they even have a baseball team now so they may not have even had a baseball team then. I think they played JV baseball for a while. Not sure if they ever played baseball on the varsity level. Anyway, Morrison was surely on the faculty at the school when Justice was there.

Hope no one minds that I don't start a Villa/Latin thread in the spirit of keeping talk of the Trojans right here, but I took in 3 periods of last nights 69-44 lopsided affair knowing that outside of the fans in attendance, that I just had to be the only B-Ball enthusiast catching back-to-back Latin games two nights in succession. Spotted NKU's Bezold & Co. in the stands and wondered what caught their attention to attend? Villa came out swinging with a full court press the entire first period giving the Trojans all they wanted ending the period with a quick 17 point lead and holding Blewett to zippa-dee-doo-dah for the quarter. They backed off in the 2nd allowing Latin to gain some hope as they immediately looked like a team on a mission cutting the lead to 13 within seconds with back-to-back baskets and showing us what Blewett was made of. Villa called a quick timeout effectively bringing the Trojans back down to earth. Villa came out in the 3rd pressing just as they had in the 1st and built a 25 point lead (about the time I called it quits). By this time Blewett was around the 13 point range. Judging by the final tally, I'm guessing that Latin traded baskets the rest of the way with Villa's bench. Blewett had a frustrating night occasionally showing what he's capable of. Without having the benefit of seeing the final period, I'll guess that he still got his 20 or more by the time it was all said and done. As it is no new news to any of us here, while watching the Trojans I still can't get it out of my head that these are Freshman aged kids, as there are no Seniors on the team, going up against true aged Seniors. I really have to hand it to them to suffer this challenge night after night. Next year's team ought to be about the best they'll have suiting up in quite a number of years. I have no delusions about this as I'm a realist at heart, but I still can't help but fantasize of them one day shocking the world with a seriously valid competitive team. Boy what a movie that would make. Rhyme the title with another famous B-Ball movie and call it 'Losers' where that inescapable tradition dramatically gets turned upside down. Yea, I know I'm dreaming, but just can't help but find Latin's story line doggone interesting. I think that a dose of reality is necessary for me right now as I'll head on over to NewCath tonight to catch them take on the Colonels of Dixie.

He was there as a dad and not as a coach.

Blewett is 26 points away from 1,000 varsity points as a Junior. This 6'2 15 year old has broken one of David Justice records. Mitchell has an average this year of 27 or 28 average points per game. His season high is 40 against Riverview East. Hopefully he will do this against SCPA on Thursday night if not a Covington Latins Senior night on Friday against Walden at Notre Dame.

Latin School has the same number of wins as Ryle ... much different schedule of course.

Thanks for the info cammatch. I was misinformed about his age when I first posted that he was 13. This young man is as strong as an ox. I'm happy to see that he's approaching 1000 points. That's pretty amazing for anyone, but with him being just a 15 year old junior, that's just crazy! Congratulations to Mitchell for an incredible high school b-ball career!

In the last two games, Latin has avenged earlier season losses to both Silver Grove and Heritage. For a team that typically struggles it sounds like they've improved this year as the season has progressed.

Mitchell Blewett hit his 1,000 Points on Friday and also beating the 4th place postion at Covington Latin. He is now at 1,029 points. This has not been done since 1986.

Congrats to a young man who works very hard! 1,000 points at the age of 15 is nothing to sneeze at and he still has another season to play... :thumb:
