Boone County 83 Covington Holy Cross 76

As Clyde said, lineup in last couple minutes of first half really got HC in a hole. HC defense not very good tonight, resulting in Boone hitting 28-32 free throws and numerous lay-ups. Defense will improve as season progresses and football players are worked in the rotation.

NKYsportsblog tweeted that Campbell finished with 17 boards.

I finally got all of the kinks worked out of my stat software and all HC games will be WebCasted on http://www.cybersportsusa.com. Stats from the first two games are available there now.

Can you give us the link that takes us directly to HC's stats?

Looks like the biggest difference with Burger is his shooting percentage. He is on fire in the first two games avg 25pts a game and shooting over 50% from the field. Way to go Jake, good kid. Nice to see him having a good start this season.

If you are tallking about the new kid, I heard he was from Taft.

Is Campbell the kid from North College Hill?

The 9th region will be extremely well-balanced with lots of teams, including these 2, with shots to win region. As usual, the 35th will have one team left out that could win the region. HC will keep getting better and better as the footballers merge in.

Agree with Straightshooter - I think this HC team will be a lot better team in a month from now. Football guys work themselves back in and Coach Goetz can firm up his rotations Playing that style he almost has to play 9-10 players, especially on a night where the refs are calling it close like last night. The free throws were the difference. BC shot 34 to HC's 14. Credit BC for making them. 2 really cheap fouls calls on Campbell for over the back that were very questionable got him in foul trouble and limited minutes throughout the game. He has such a long wingspan that refs are anticipating that there "had" to be contact if he got the rebound when there really wasn't any contact. Burger also was in and out with foul trouble last night but still ended up with 25 pts.

Again, credit Boone Co, they played a good game and deserved to win. I was really impressed at how twell hey pass the ball. Those guards are good and McQueary can shoot the basketball.

Lack of FTs for HC is their own doing. They failed to look inside often IMO when the big boy was open.

The "over the back" calls are not easy to make. The one I do recall looked like a good call although you and I can't really tell if we're not down on the floor.

Clyde, HC missing Campbell down low a few times doesn't make up for the FT difference I was referring to. While I agree with your take there, there were far too many touch fouls called no where near the basket on HC. but like I mentioned earlier, I dont want to take away from the BC win.

As far as the over-the-back calls on Campbell, the one for sure was bad IMO. Pouncy was the outside official who could not see if there was any contact in front of Campbell. he reached up with his long arms and got the rebound. No way Pouncy could have seen any contact in front of him. That should have been a call for the official under the basket, 3 feet away, who had a better view if there was contact. That foul was also one that sent him to the bench if you recall.

You are incorrect on it being the call of the official under the basket. It certainly can be and is often seen better by the outside official. Not cut and dry.

Boone was much more aggressive offensively thus they got the foul shots. Could some of the fouls on the perimeter been let go? Yes.

I was sitting with a former official of the 9th region, and he also said it was NOT the outside officials call. If you think about it if the outside official (in this case Pouncy) is behind the player in question and he is calling a foul because he deems the player is over the back of the player in front of him there is no way he can tell if there is contact in front of him or if the player went straight up over him to get the rebound. The official under the basket however, can see everything especially if there is contact.

I guess we can agree to disagree. I will solicit info from other officials and see how they interpret that call.
