December 7, 201114 yr Heard from an NKU baseball guy that they already have Ohio State, Cincinnati, Xavier, and Oklahoma State scheduled for 2013.

December 7, 201114 yr Author What do you guys think about the move? As someone who covers basketball, I'm pumped about it. I'm not sure how it plays out for the other programs at NKU, though.
December 7, 201114 yr Good news. I am glad to see the program go D1. It should raise the school's profile and recognition. This is not the preferred conference affiliation but it was the best of the alternatives left.

Tough market in basketball with professional teams and UC & XU already established. UC is havng difficulty drawing fans especially with their non-conference schedule. I can't see NKU being able to schedule home games with teams from larger conferences and don't see A-Sun being a huge draw at BOK. NKU was able to be a contender at the conference and national level as a member of the GLVC and D2 in many sports. It's going to be a tough few years adjustment as a bottom feeder at the D1 level.

I feel like it will be great for baseball and softball just because they will be playing conference games in southern states as opposed to the midwestern states of the GLVC. Warmer weather for early spring baseball. Not sure how the other soccer programs are in the Atlantic Sun but NKU has been at the top for a number of seasons in DII. I think they will be able to compete consistantly within their conference sooner than later in most all sports.

Going D-1 in general is a great move for NKU, no matter where they landed in my opinion. It is going to be a shame when people only view the move from the eyes of a basketball fan, because I believe there are so many more positives that go into this. I think NKU's teams will be very competitive in their new conference and against some out-of-conference opponents in many of the sports, especially soccer and a few others. Is track the new sport? I'd imagine it would be. I do wish NKU could have gotten into the OVC because of the in-state rivalries it would have provided and I just felt like it would have been overall better for the school, but that isn't how the cookies crumbled. Either way I'm proud of my alma mater and glad to see that it it continuing to grow in both quantity and quality.

It's not like NKU has that money as "extra." Some part of NKU is going to pay for this move.
