Not really....Just by being D-1 they'll have access to a whole new group of talent they wouldn't have had in D-II. Being able to play against schools like UK, UC, UofL, X, etc. is going to attract guys that want to have a chance to play against high quality teams. It 100% would do nothing but improve recruiting.

Those are merely exhibitions. There might be a big pay difference when they are for real.

 

And playing larger schools and getting their tail kicked in, isn't going to hurt recruiting. If it did, no smaller schools would do it. But let's remember, this year NKU did beat WVU and played very competitively with UC in Morgantown and Cincy. Only one year, but still its not like they got rocked by 50.

If they dont win the atlantic sun every year, they may not get into NCAA tournament, (doing from a situation where they were almost always in the D2 tournament, and normally had a decent run.) not sure if they helps or hurts in the long run.

Clyde provided some pretty good arguements in here regarding cost/money. But, without knowing details, I feel like they cover a lot of that through sponsorship, the financial shot in the arms games, and getting more money from being a part of the Atlantic Sun vs. the GLVC. We simply don't know how all that breaks down.

 

Apparently it is going to cost an addtionally 3 million plus, but no where has been mentioned how much extra revenue this will bring in (not even factoring tickets sales (which may or may not bring in more than it does now...might stay the same for a while).

 

Seems like everyone is only focused on athletics, while this move means so much more to the school than simply athletics.

You could say that about any team in the majority of D-1 conferences though? Saying that they shouldn't make the move to Division 1 because they might not make the tournament, is not a very good reason in my mind at all to stay D-II.

 

And what makes it even less of a good point, they are probably pretty capable of making the NCAA tournament in several sports (Men and Women's soccer, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball) right now. The basketball teams might take a couple of years to get there, maybe not. I don't really know how strong the Atlantic Sun is in regards to all their sports.

2. Play 3-4 upper level D1 teams in a season. (all these games will be on the road.) if they get say 50k per game, thats 100k. Travel cost for those games will be what? variable on the trips and where but easily 5-10k per trip (unless they are playing someone more local and no overnight required)

--Lets say they make 70k net from those 4 games, how does that significantly increase revenue for a D1 school?

But that is going to get me into all kinds of other discussions that doesn't involve athletics, which is very beneficial for the school. If people are only thinking athletics, then yeah its an okay-good movie. If they think bigger picture its a good-great move for the school.

Where are they going to put the students? they are almost out of room on campus now, where and with what moneys are they going to build new buildings for this enrollment increase.

 

I agree that it will more than likely increase enrollment by more than the average they have seen in recent years.

Looks like NKU is already trying to make moves in scheduling some of those large powerhouses...

Question for everyone. Can NKU recruit nationaly? Looking at the roster, most of the team is what I would call localish in nature. Does NKU have the staff/funding to recruit at a national level as a D1 school?
