I see your point but I still say the media takes the lazy way out. They generate the headline with the easiest piece of gossip or innuendo versus digging for real stories. People will buy/click on the real story if you work at finding good ones. Gossip/finger pointing over news, ranting over discussion, hype over thought all day every day in today's media.

We are lazy. We're not going to "work at finding good ones." There are plenty of good stories available. We just don't care enough to find them or read them.

You'd hate my rules at my house. :lol: As long as they live with me, whether they're paying any bills, in school or not, then I call the shots. If they don't like it, they're certainly welcome to find their own place to live, pay their own bills and visit me when it's convenient for me. Other than that, even if they're 25, I have "say".

 

I agree that parents should have a say when the kid is living at home but would you seriously stop supporting your child if she said she wouldn't write the letter even though you wanted her too? Or would you strictly be authoritarian about it? What you say he/she better do?

I wouldn't apologize for a daggone thing, and wouldn't take a punishment for a tweet during "school" unless they show that the teacher/supervisor did not make a single tweet/facebook/e-mail during the visit. If she can't social media, then noone should've been able to. The tweet rule is a cop out.

May be a cop out but there are plenty of things teachers can do that students can't...

 

Now if you said I'd make sure they punished every other student who tweeted/facebooked during the visit then I'd be down with that.

Sorry, Hearsay, but teachers and students are different and have different rules.

Governor looks bad for being thin-skinned.

The school looks bad for making her apologize.

 

She should not have to apologize unless her parents make that call.

 

The conversation the principal had should have centered around a poor use of words instead of it being centered on the fact that she criticized an elected leader.

The school should take this opportunity to spend time on the Freedom of Speech issue for all of their students so they do not fall into the trap that many on here do of thinking that you can say anything at anytime without fear of losing your job. They should be taught the finer details of the FOS issue that many of us missed.

 

If the school's only action is to try to punish the girl then they have failed to take advantage of a great teaching opportunity.

There are a lot of things teachers/supervisors get to do that kids don't.
