Has Larry French......

Last week some Mercer parents said they were aware of the rumor and worried that Rains would be tapped for the Boyle job after doing such a good job at Mercer this year.

Whether Coach French decides to stay or retire, I will support him. He has been a god-send for Boyle football and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors. I feel very lucky to have had my son play for him during his 4 years here. 52-5 with 2 state championships is a pretty good legacy to leave behind. I must say I was pretty emotional after the game last night knowing that was the final game I'd get to see my son play for Boyle. I wish the program continued success in the future no matter who is at the helm.

Thanks go out to Coach French, the players, fans, and all the assistant coaches for a wonderful four years of football!!!:thumb::thumb:

Well said, TTC. I feel the same way.

Trust me, I don't want Coach French to go anywhere. BUT, if he does, I think Boyle definately needs to hire outside of the program.

coached his last game at Boyle County? There has been plenty of rumor and innuendo about this being Larry French's last year coaching. I have heard multiple people in Boyle and Mercer County saying that the principal at Boyle has said this is Larry French's last year coaching and that Paul Rains is first on his list to replace Coach French. The hot rumor is that Coach French's son was let go by the administration after the 2010-11 school year and was told his position was being eliminated and then the administration filled that same position at a later date. Apparently this rubbed Coach French the wrong way and that this is his last year is the way the rumor goes.

I have been sitting on this all year, since before the Highlands game and it has been quietly discussed in many different circles all year long. Has anyone else in a Boyle circle heard anything similar to this? Has anyone in Boyle circle heard if this is Coach French's last year? Has anyone in any circle heard anything about Coach French's future? Now that our season is over I would love to find out if anyone knows anything.

Coach French has been great for Boyle County. I hope this is all false or that he reconsiders if it is true. He is a very classy and well respected coach and while I won't say no one can do better than Coach French I will say that I currently don't want anyone else as the head coach at Boyle County. I hope he stays and that the principal was just talking crazy when he said what he said.

Does anyone know anything?

I'm not in the Boyle circle, but I heard basically the same thing back at the end of the Summer. Between this and the screw up with the baseball job hiring, the principal is having a hard time.

I don't have a problem with that. I just hope it is someone with a Boyle County/Chuck Smith/Larry French type of connection. And like you I hope, wish and pray that Coach French sticks around through the Rees Smith years at least.(about 7 more years)

Yeah, he's not won many fans around this way. I'm surprised that so many people have heard this yet no one spoke on it earlier. I knew I was going to as soon as the season was over. Normally a story like that would have just came out ASAP. Makes me feel like the rumor has some serious legs to it. If I worked for the Advocate Messenger it'd be the top story in the sports section tomorrow. Will he stay or will he go?

One thing you can guarantee is that I will shake the bushes.:lol:

Larry has been Great for Boyle Co. Good luck to my friend no matter what he decides to do.

He has got a good gig! Why would he want to get out? Great program close to home! Can't see coach French getting out of coaching and if that is indeed the case he will be at Boyle!

Larry French is a first class coach and person. Coach French and his staff has done a great job at Boyle County. I hope that Coach French does not hang it up, but if he does I hope it is on his terms. If he does step down they should give a hard look at some of the first class asst coaches that Boyle have and keep some stability with the program.

I have it on good word that as of today Coach French has not spoken of retirement to anyone on his staff.

I also have it on good word that if this rumor comes to fruition Will Begley has some explaining to do.

Who is Will Begley?
