coached his last game at Boyle County? There has been plenty of rumor and innuendo about this being Larry French's last year coaching. I have heard multiple people in Boyle and Mercer County saying that the principal at Boyle has said this is Larry French's last year coaching and that Paul Rains is first on his list to replace Coach French. The hot rumor is that Coach French's son was let go by the administration after the 2010-11 school year and was told his position was being eliminated and then the administration filled that same position at a later date. Apparently this rubbed Coach French the wrong way and that this is his last year is the way the rumor goes.

 

I have been sitting on this all year, since before the Highlands game and it has been quietly discussed in many different circles all year long. Has anyone else in a Boyle circle heard anything similar to this? Has anyone in Boyle circle heard if this is Coach French's last year? Has anyone in any circle heard anything about Coach French's future? Now that our season is over I would love to find out if anyone knows anything.

 

Coach French has been great for Boyle County. I hope this is all false or that he reconsiders if it is true. He is a very classy and well respected coach and while I won't say no one can do better than Coach French I will say that I currently don't want anyone else as the head coach at Boyle County. I hope he stays and that the principal was just talking crazy when he said what he said.

That's about the same time I heard it. I kept quiet about it except around a chosen few and I knew the night our season ended that this thread was going to pop up. I think people would be surprised with how fans, parents and boosters view our administration.

 

Congrats on your win also. I am happy for you guys. Who knew Garrard County would be the last team in area playing the day after Thanksgiving. That is truly awesome. Keep rolling. I am pulling for you guys.

This has been like a dirty little secret all season.....if you ask anyone about Coach French's status they shrug their shoulders and hope for the best. No one wants to see him leave. No one.

Steve Bertram was talking about it on the post game radio show as I was driving back to Danville. I hadn't heard any rumors, but I commented to my wife that, if French leaves, we should go after Raines hard.

I've been told that Rains actually lives closer to Boyle High School than Mercers. Could be interesting....if it happens I wonder what MC will try to do to keep him.

Why would we want Rains? Wouldn't he change up the entire offensive system? I like the Larry French/Chuck Smith way of doing things. I normally am not bothered by change but you are talking about kids that have learned a system and used that system since little league football. I fear the results if that is changed overnight.

I hope they keep him. The keys to success for Mercer's future has been implemented down to middle school as they run the same offense Rains is teaching. Those kids are built for his offense. If Mercer is smart they'll keep him. It'd be a wasted year if they let him go to Boyle.
