Anthony Wales' Pursuit of JJ's Record

Featured Replies

With JC losing we now know what the mark is for Anthony Wales.

He needs 441 yards to break the record.

He has the potential to play in 3 more games.

For some reason I was thinking he was around 800 yards behind. Very possible.

Could be interesting to see if he can catch JJ. Needs to average 150 yards and play in 3 more games. So it is possible. Amazing for two players to break mark in same year.

It will be interesting to see how many yards he gets against Bell County.

I don't think his yardage total against Bell County matters a whole lot. The key is for Central to win. If they do, they won't lose in the semis and I'd bet on him topping 441 in the final two games alone.

If Central wins Friday, he'll own the record.

Wales had 86 yards on 10 carries in the '08 final vs. Breathitt County. He had 247 on 19 carries last year vs. Belfry. He'll likely face one of those two teams in the final and I'd say he's a pretty good bet for a similar game to last year.

I, personally hope, that he breaks the record. More importantly, I hope he's used as needed. He has a very promising future, and records aren't nearly as important as a kid's future.

He'll break the record as long as they win. They'll win because has big games.

441? is that right? he was way behind JJJ and didn't play week one of playoffs and didn't have a monster game last week. I would like to see him make a run at it but I was thinking he wasmuch further behind.

If 441 is the correct yardage then a fully expect him to get the record if they beat Bell Co.

The 441 yards Wales needs is to surpass Homer's old mark. Ironically, this is the exact number of yards Jude had in the game he passed Homer in.

According to this article, JJ Jude finished with 8,633 yards. Anthony Wales is currently at 7,779. He'd need to average around 285 yards a game to beat Jude.

So you're saying you want to read the article exactly as it was stated?

Sorry about that.

Since that is the case I think he can get the Homer Record but JJJ's new record may be just out of reach for him.

If they beat Bell County, it will be interesting. If they advance to the finals, I expect him to rack up a lot of yardage because the games should be a little more competitive than last week against Corbin, so he should have a chance to get 200+ every time out.

Bell County is allowing 108 yards on the ground per game. They've allowed two 100 yard rushers on the season, Boston Bryant from Middlesboro (23 carries for 127 yards against Bell - 183/1,292 for the season) and Marcus McMillan from Harlan County (35 carries for 135 yards against Bell - 233/1,955 for the season). If Wales were to surpass that, say get 150 for argument's sake, he's need to drop about 350 per game in the semis and finals. If he got a monster performance, say like the 230 he got against St. X, he'd still need 624 yards in the final two games. It's likely he's going to need at least one monster performance in the same style that Jude got to even have a shot at this.
