They also have not played against a physical and fast team that can move the ball many ways since CCH. I am sure the bluebirds did not have any intensity the last time they played CCH.

I was just about to post the same thing. It's hard to imagine that defense ratcheting up the intensity but they sure seem to have done so. I think the points CCH scored put a chip on their shoulders. Hope so.

The answer to Guru's question is yes. CCH does have the right team to beat HHS. They match up better than they have since the 04/05/06 teams.

On any given Friday. Can't wait til next weekend. Glad to have CovCath back playing like the Colonels of old. If they get the kind of breaks that the Birds gave out in the first meeting, this game could be trouble, especially with the injury bug that chomped on the Birds last night.

Remember, the last two opponents were no quick strike offenses which means less off plays for CCH. Our offense is just fine. Highlands did not allow many big plays and we had to grind it out more. " four yards and a cloud of dust "! Highlands scores come quicker which means more off plays for CCH. Don't get caught up in stats vs other teams. The match up will dictate the pace and scoring opps.

Med, I'm the last person that gets "caught up in stats." I've watched a few games.

 

The offense is not where it was against BW and Highlands IMO. Look at last night. Two quarters of big-play offense and two quarters of stalled drives. They still put up a lot of points but it wasn't against an HHS-caliber D. I'm not wringing my hands. I'm simply saying it's not clicking at the same high level it was previously. It's still strong.

I'm sure of one thing... it will be a great game against two storied football programs and will be played with a lot of heart and intensity on both sides!

 

CovCath and Highlands have first-rate programs and I have no doubt this will be evident Friday night.

Yes I have notice that CovCath puts up the same amount of points in games that it takes Highlands to put up in a half. For the record, I would love to see CovCath knock off Highlands but its just not gonna happen this year.

To answer the thread question, yes CCH has the right kind of team to beat Highlands. They have a very balanced offense and the strength of the offense is Gabe Gray and the running game. CCH needs to do two things IMO. They need to focus the offense on the running game, controlling the clock and reducing the number of possessions for the Highlands offense. Second, CCH needs to go over the top on a few pass plays. I know that is not the strength of the offense and that is why I say they need to do it. Highlands will not be expecting that and CCH needs to stretch the field, get the Birds DB's to loosen up and create space for their running game and effective short drop passing game.

 

If I am Highlands, I press cover the receivers and take away Bir's quick pass game and crowd the box. Bir is most ineffective when teams press the receivers and take away the short passes. CCH's weakness is they don't have any home run receivers. They have a solid group with good hands but Highlands should be able to man up on the Colonel receivers and handle them. If CCH can hit on a long pass or two, that will shake things up.
