Lieutenant John Hiltz is a native of Fort Mitchell, Ky., and graduated from Covington Catholic High School in 1998 where he lettered in basketball. He attended the University of Notre Dame, where he played basketball, and graduated *** Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in May 2002. He received his commission through the NROTC program.

He completed primary flight training in the T-34C Mentor at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas and transferred to NAS Meridian, Miss., for intermediate and advanced flight training in the T-2C Buckeye and the T-45C Goshawk. He earned his wings of gold in August 2005.

John then reported to Strike Fighter Squadron 122 (VFA-122), the “Flying Eagles,” at NAS Lemoore, Calif., for initial training in the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. That is pretty cool!!

"Honey, how was your day?"

"Oh, I flew a Blue Angel over NYC. OK."

Not a CCH grad, but have always thought they build successful young men better than any school I know. The fraternal part of CCH breeds success that goes well beyond graduation.

Per Cov Cath's Alumni Newsletter:

"Matthew Klein '05 On Duty at the Masters

After graduating from UK with a degree in Soil Science in 2010, Matthew Klein headed to Georgia. It was on his birthday during his senior year that he received a call from Augusta National to make him aware of an opportunity to work on their crew.

Matt spent his first year taking care of holes 11, 12 and 13, better known as “Amen Corner”. Where else would a good Catholic boy be assigned? After spending two years at Augusta, Matt accepted a position of assistant superintendent at Olde Florida in Naples.

Matt is in Augusta working on the crew during the Masters. Former crew members are often called to duty this week to help keep the course pristine. Matt has also had the honor of being on the crew in Valhalla during the Ryder Cup. Yes, the grass is always greener when Matt is in charge."

I've known Matt for quite a while as he and my son have been boys since first grade. Easily one of my favorites to hang around with.

Another '05 grad ends his bachelor days today as Rob Grimes gets married. I've known Rob since about 2001. Great kid. Fun kid. Easily one of the best d-linemen in the last decade at CCH.

Best wishes to Rob and his bride. And any video of Marty Grimes on the dance floor will be worth its weight in gold.

Here's a great article about Cov Cath "alum" Nick Seligman, who died last week. He was a great, great guy. If you've been to any Cov Cath football game, basketball game, or bingo night in the last 20+ years, you've more than likely seen him there. He's one of the most dedicated boosters that the school has ever had. We lost a great one in Nick.

Also, from Cov Cath's website:

Nick Seligman, committed CCH volunteer, Passes Away

This past Tuesday, Nick Seligman, committed CCH volunteer passed away. Nick is the father of Jason '96 and grandfather of Max '16.

Nick served Covington Catholic in many ways. He worked Bingo week after week, helped at the concession stand at football and baskeball games, served drinks at the Sports Banquet and attended most sporting and school events. Nick had a great love of CCH and its students. He will be greatly missed for his generosity of spirit and good heart. Please keep Nick's family in your prayers.

Visiting hours for Nick will be 1-5 PM at CCH on Sunday, 8/11 and the funeral will be Monday, 8/12 at 11:30 AM at St. Agnes. Max Nicholas Seligman Obituary: View Max Seligman's Obituary by Kentucky Enquirer

"With a Spirit that Will Not Die!"

Brad Wilder '97 - Graduated from UC, Masters from UC. Investment manager with Fifth Third. Lives in NKY with his wife and two boys. Won the Cincinnati Met this past summer.

Brad was inducted to the Cov Cath Athletic Hall Of Fame back in 2011 (baseball and golf). If he'd made the finals for the Mid-Amateur tournament he would have gotten an invite to play at The Masters. Pretty awesome.
