November 9, 201114 yr Dilfer watched the game film of the Raiders/Broncos game and said Palmer's INTs broke down as 1 great play by a corner, 1 where the receiver screwed up, and 1 really bad throw. He said Palmer had about 8 top-level throws. We can't use picks as a measuring stick. Otherwise, Alex Smith would be considered the #1 QB. Okay. what is your measuring stick?
November 9, 201114 yr We can't use picks as a measuring stick. I agree that all picks are not created equal, some are fluky, take bad bounces off of hands etc.. but they have to be part of the measuring stick for sure. It isn't all luck that certain guys don't get picked off as often and others get picked off regularly.
November 9, 201114 yr Okay. what is your measuring stick? My first thing is to recognize I know nothing about being a qb in the NFL and how intricate it is. I rely on guys like Dilfer who watch game film and know what is going on to tell me who he thinks plays well and why certain things happen. If he says Palmer played well then that's good enough for me. Who are we to argue? Are you that smart?

November 9, 201114 yr Here are his tweets: TDESPN Trent Dilfer #filmstudy Raiders vs. Broncos, Carson Palmer throws 3 int's & perception is that he stinks. 1 great play by corner, 1 getting hit, 1 on him #filmstudy Raiders CP makes 7 throws in the game vs Broncos that are as good as it gets, OAK ceiling offensively is much higher with CP #filmstudy There is always more to "the story" of how a QB plays than the box score. FB dummies believe the box score #TheTruthIsInTheTape

Let's talk in about 8 weeks, and see where we are. I'm pretty confident that Oakland will not make the playoffs, and that the play of their high priced QB will be a contributing factor.

You're a Highlands guy so I'm sure you've watched a game from the stands and then watched the game film. Sometimes you're stunned at what you thought you saw vs what really happened. Dilfer also said that Oakland's D is terrible and played terribly against Denver. That doesn't help the playoff run. I agree that it was a high price to pay for a QB but that's the market.

November 9, 201114 yr I had 8 years of film study to determine what Carson is. Which is an average QB.
November 9, 201114 yr Then good luck with Alex Smith as your qb this year. I don't think San Francisco is complaining to much with their record under Smith.
November 9, 201114 yr I don't think San Francisco is complaining to much with their record under Smith. Where do you rank him?
November 9, 201114 yr Where do you rank him? I'd rank Smith darn near smack in the middle of NFL starting QBs. Higher than CP9 (or I guess it's CP3 now) that's for sure.

Or behind who? http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=0&statisticCategory=PASSING&conference=null&season=2011&seasonType=REG&d-447263-s=PASSING_YARDS&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-n=1
November 9, 201114 yr Author ^I'm not making a quick decision on anything. I've had 8 years of evidence. Palmer is no where close to being a good QB in the NFL. He's average at best, more appropriately mediocre. Your 8 years of evidence has included watching game tape and breaking down the plays? Or your 8 years of evidence is based on what you seen live, and box scores without knowing what the exact play was? Or where the route was suppose to be run. As Trent Dilfer said it is very easy to have an opinion when you just see things live once, and then see the end results in the box score. It is a whole differen't thign to actually break down the film and the play where the interception happened. Which is what you all keep wanting to completely ignore. You all say there are excuses, however people who have played in the offense with him, people who have coached him, and people who have broken down the game tape have seemed to find that it was not always him. That there were a lot of other things that were involved in some bad plays too. There have been plenty of people who have had no problem placing blame on the OC like former players have, or saying receivers ran their own routes. These people who have said this stuff is people who actually have been around it, and know and watch the tape. Yes there are plenty of times when it has just been on Palmer too. Especially since he hurt his arm, however to continue to ignore everything else like most of you do, and just say it is excuses is wrong.
November 9, 201114 yr Well, if we want to get technical, Brady Fitzpatrick Rothlisberger Schaub Hasselbeck Rivers Vick Manning (brother Eli) Romo Stafford Rodgers Cutler Brees Ryan Freeman Those guys would all be ranked ahead of him. I put him in the same group as: Dalton Flacco Bradford Kolb So I guess in the 16-20 range.
