I'd rank Smith darn near smack in the middle of NFL starting QBs. Higher than CP9 (or I guess it's CP3 now) that's for sure.

 

I would like to know where you ranked Smith two years ago, or even a year ago? Unless wait a minute, does coaching really play a big part on how a QB will do sometimes? Wow who knew! Alex Smith was a guy that has looked bad basically his whole career. He now has an a very good offensive guy working with him, and now he looks like a decent QB.

Best receiver here and can't get on the field in New England where they have no outside threat at all. Why? He can't run the offense and doesn't run routes properly. They have chosen to go with a lesser talented person that will do the job for Brady vs the Bengals who put up with all of his shortcomings(on and off the field) over the years.

 

We'll never know what CP could have done in a better organization.

Man don't you know that this stuff does not matter. It does not matter what people who break down the film think. People have their opinion and know what the final stats say in the box score, so that proves they are right. If a person has reasons for it, even people who break down the tapes it would all just be an excuse.

Your 8 years of evidence has included watching game tape and breaking down the plays? Or your 8 years of evidence is based on what you seen live, and box scores without knowing what the exact play was? Or where the route was suppose to be run. As Trent Dilfer said it is very easy to have an opinion when you just see things live once, and then see the end results in the box score. It is a whole differen't thign to actually break down the film and the play where the interception happened. Which is what you all keep wanting to completely ignore. You all say there are excuses, however people who have played in the offense with him, people who have coached him, and people who have broken down the game tape have seemed to find that it was not always him. That there were a lot of other things that were involved in some bad plays too. There have been plenty of people who have had no problem placing blame on the OC like former players have, or saying receivers ran their own routes. These people who have said this stuff is people who actually have been around it, and know and watch the tape. Yes there are plenty of times when it has just been on Palmer too. Especially since he hurt his arm, however to continue to ignore everything else like most of you do, and just say it is excuses is wrong.

Between being stuck with a zoo of an organization and his injury we'll never really know what might have been.

 

However, I'd say the fact that he was #2 in the league in 2005 tells us a lot about what might have been.

Your right however I do pay attention to everything else too. I also take into consideration that we had receivers who did freelance on routes. I also take into consideration how it is all about timing and receivers being at the right spot. QB's have to throw the ball before the ball is thrown, so if a receiver is not at the right spot. A pass that might have been actually where it was suppose to be at, might end up being thrown high or low and picked off. I also take into consideration that coaching does play a big part in how a QB will do. Bratkowski's offense got stale, but he kept trying to do the same things and seven step drops even though we had no true deep threats anymore and the line was bad. I also take into consideration his offense became predictable. We can look around the league and see QB's who got better with certain coaches, and QB's who got worst when certain coaches left. So there was a lot more things to go along with it, than just stats as you say. Yes Palmer has plenty of blame himself, and he definitely has not been the same since he arm injury. That is why I don't say he is an elite QB, he is a QB that is better than some of the names you mentioned though and just not as bad as you make him seem to be.
