Pretty good. I'm okay with experiencing the post season but what good is it to bring kids over 100 miles to get embarrassed? Somebody help me understand this.

If your son got the opportunity to play a basketball game against the best hgh school basketball team in the nation and got beaten badly, do you think he'd sit in the lockerroom afterwards and feel embarrassed or would he think it was great he had the opportunity to play against some of the best high school basketball players in the country?

 

I think most kids just love the opportunity to play as many games as possible in high school. I think most appreciate and relish playing against the best teams even if the result is ugly. As a competitor, I'd love the opportunity to see just how well I matched up against the best. If I got the tar beat out of me, at least it was done by the best. Unfortunately my college football team got beat rather frequently and sometimes the losses were ugly. I never; repeat never, felt embarrassed by it. I believe I'd only feel embarrassed after a game if I felt I hadn't given my all and that would have been regardless of whether we won or lost.

As much as I would like to see Boyd win this won, I can't foresee that happeing. Highlands' offense is just too good.

I think you are correct. I just read the New Cath / Gallatin Co. thread and Gallatin's appearances were 1 greater than losses as well.

If they give it their best shot and play to the end like winners, they shouldn't feel embarrassed at all. Embarrassment would be not showing up, or not starting your best players in an effort to win against the odds.

I will say this to any Boyd County boys who might read this especially any seniors.

 

You've been blessed to be able to participate in a great sport. Many of us old-timers wish we could experience it again even if it meant getting whipped. Football and sports are more than just the game. It's the investment you make. It's the bus ride with your boys. It's the lockerroom after practice. It's the funny things your coach does. It's the smell of mud. Now it's even the feeling of cut up tire in your pants. It's that beautiful smell of week-old practice jerseys.

 

If you're an underclassmen notice how the seniors look after they realize it's over. Use that.

 

 

Solid chance this will be your last time wearing the Boyd colors. Take it all in and enjoy it.
