16 yr old Atheist Student, School Clash Over Prayer Mural

Featured Replies

Once again not hurting anyone and not forcing it on anyone, and destroying tradition. Where is the tolerance everyone preaches about. 1 kid who is 16 now destroys 48yrs of tradition. I hope the school doesnt back down. But I guess the false teachers will agree with the ACLU saying shouldnt be in public schools, but what gets me is why all of a sudden now.

The number of years something has been in place has no relevance to the debate.

There is no statute of limitations.

This is not as cut-and-dry as the football game/prayer issue.

What does the number of years it's been in place have to do with anything?

My question is how do you know you are an atheist at 10?

^I'd say it's the same as knowing when you're 20 or 50....If you don't believe in God, you're an atheist.

Girl should just go to a different school. I'm sure she could find one that didn't have this type of mural for almost 50 years. Some folks just want to bellyache aboutsomething. Or better yet home school would be the answer. Tradition =years, again man changes, God never changes.

Unacceptable response, Larry. She is going to the public school in her district.

Who cares if it was there for 50 years or 1,000 years? Slavery was in place for over a hundred years....That was a tradition too. Good thing people had enough common sense to realize it's okay to change things.

Maybe Clyde, but it is an option, so the response from me is acceptable. (really gets my goat when folks on here try to tell me how to speak) Maybe its one she needs to consider, or sometimes we just have to go with the status of the way things are.

Imagine she goes to college and there is something she doesn't agree with, she gets married and her In-Laws do/have something in their lives she is against. She gets a job she reallhy loves but there is something in the break room she hates, or she is against homosexuals in the work place and she has to complain. Life isn't easy, but we have to adapt.

There are some far fetched ideas there, but we can't expect everything/everyone to condone to our way of thinking when its different.

I wonder why she didn't notice it at the beginning of her freshman year, and also where the poster saw where the school was a public one in her Disctrict? I missed that or maybe he just added it, which I would think would be "Unaccetable".

Woo... I so look forward to reading these threads. They make my work day go by so much faster.

In theory, a mural is art. Art is subjective. Therefore, I say that religious in theme or not, it stays.

In this particular instance, I agree with you.

Two things.....

1 - I believe religion should be in schools (and that's why mine go to a Christ centered school)

2 - I will pray for her unguided soul. I hope she gets to know Jesus Christ.
