Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show...

Featured Replies

Not Madonna, that's for sure. She made exactly two good albums, and she is only in the exalted position she's in because of good marketing, not musical talent. She's about a half-step above Brittney Spears on the quality ladder.

Which two?

So, you're saying that if they had a university marching band perform at halftime, you'd skip your grill-checking and watch?

No. Just that I find the idea of rock concerts coupled with NFL games to be a bit ridiculous.

Janet Jackson. Every year.

Yeah, well you can bet there will be some serious wardrobe checks happening with Madonna.

Which two?

First two. I'll give some consideration to "True Blue" as well.

So, who would you guys like to see perform?

I think they have before, but JT and Usher would be at the top of my list. :idunno:

Wouldn't mind seeing Adele either.

JT is half of the wardrobe malfunction... He's always welcome.

Usher did a lip sync cameo appearance with Black Eyed Peas last year.

I like Adele, but I don't think it'd ever happen.

What was the later album that had the techno angle to it and I believe generated Grammy nomination? You don't like that one?

I think I'd also go for the marching band instead of the over-produced and WAY over-applauded music act.

And if you're still stuck on the whole "This Is America" theme that seems to have taken over the halftime show, how about something like these guys for a change?

Black Keys

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals

Even though they are broke up my #1 pick would be:

White Stripes

Saw Grace Potter @ Lollapalooza... So good. So hot. Pictures do not do her justice.

This isn't normal for me but I'm going against Jim Schue and CWB in a music thread. I don't like marching bands so I'd rather have the concert. Unfortunately with a few exceptions the acts they pick are either geriatric or not that good to start with. Pick any of the three bands I listed above (if I put more thought into it I'm sure a larger list would come) and you have a good show. If not that, then Janet/JT were on to something and let's just have a halftime strip tease. :D

I skipped her Headliners show and Ear-X-Tacy meet and greet earlier in the year like a dummy---definitely need to remedy that next time she is around Louisville.

One final thing. I haven't caught much of her music in the last few decades but in the '80's Madonna was really good. Like A Virgin is a fantastic album, I have it and her eponymous debut on vinyl. :D

Any of those would be awesome. But, it looks like the powers that be in planning the SB worship at the alter of marketing and we are only likely to see super popular acts that will draw as wide a swath of people as possible. I will say this, however: The halftime shows before nipple-gate were getting out of hand, at least they are just choosing one artist these days (with the unfortunate exception of last year). And they've also managed to steer clear of the low hanging fruit of mainstream country. Rascal Flatts would truly be cringe worthy.

I'm not sure how far away we are from a Zach Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, and Jimmy Buffett Suckapalooza Halftime Show.
