Reds 2012 Lineup

Featured Replies

As the season ends and things are fresh in our minds, what do you want the Reds lineup to look like in 2012? Here is what I hope to see:

Phillips 2B

Cozart SS

Votto 1B

Rolen/Francisco platoon 3B

Bruce RF

Heisey/Alonso platoon LF

Stubbs CF

Mesoraco/Hanigan platoon C

For my rotation, I want to see:

Cueto

Arroyo

Volquez

Chapman

Bailey

Cordero Closer

Votto for Bautista? Alonso to 1B?

I could see Votto getting traded. But if I trade Votto, I have to get a lock down #1 starter in return.

You got it.

Do you have these in a random order, or are you considering Cueto your number 1, Arroyo your number 2, etc.? I like, however, splitting up Cueto, Volquez and Bailey.

So, what do you do with Leake?

I knew I was forgetting someone. Leake, Bailey and Volquez have to battle it out for the last 2 slots. I put them in the order to give teams different looks and keep them off balance on back to back days.

I was talking to a fellow Reds fan last night, and he seemed to think that Stubbs would be gone after this year. Not sure where he heard that from.

He doesn't even hit his first arbitration year until 2013 and doesn't become a FA until 2016. If anything I see them buying out his arbitration years and trying to get him to sign a long term deal on what should be a discount.

I highly doubt that.

Maybe they will package him with someone else to get a big name pitcher but I doubt it.

The Reds have to many left handed hitters, my guess is we see some movement with one of them. Maybe Votto, only because he would bring a lot !

Don't know that I agree with you there (as far as having too many left handed hitters). Besides Votto and Bruce, the only other two lefties are Allonso and Francisco.

Alonso was brought up from the minors because they were short on left handed hitters. When the Reds brought him up it was primarily because they needed a left handed bat on the bench. 4 lefties and 4 righties in the lineup would be good. They actually might need another left hander to have on the bench when all four lefties start. Dontrelle Willis? I see him going to the pen and being used like Micah Owings was used by the Reds a few years back.

Phillips 2B

Cozart SS

Votto 1B

Bruce RF

Alonso/Heisey LF

Stubbs/Heisey CF

Francisco 3B

Mesoraco C

Rotation:

1 - Cueto

2 - Arroyo

3 - Chapman

4 - Leake

5 - Volquez

Package Wood, Bailey, and some others for a bat perhaps? :idunno:

It wouldn't surprise me to see Votto traded for Bautista and someone else. They also have a surplus of 4-5 rotation pitchers so you could trade a couple of them with Stubbs and maybe someone else for a top of the line pitcher. The Reds simply strike out too much and some of those strike outs need to go and Bruce is signed to a good deal.

C - Hernandez

1B - Votto

2B - Phillips

SS - Renteria

3B - Rolen

LF - Dewayne Wise

CF - Juan Pierre

RF - Jay Bruce

Dusty has to have two to three past-their-prime veterans in any lineup he makes. Young uns will sit.
