Thoughts on Jose Reyes coming out after 1 AB to preserve his batting average?

The only way I can bash the guy is if he put himself ahead of the team's chances of making the playoffs. He didn't.
Fair enough. But I don't like moves like this and consider it to be a weak play.

What if Reyes had a bonus in his contract for winning the title? His team has been out of it for months. Do we really expect him to walk away from something the team granted him?

Took himself out? Wow! The shallow world of baseball continues...

...and Pete Rose is banned?

IMO baseball's downward spiral started with the '94 strike costing Montreal a certain trip to the postseason, marlins buying at WS title in '97, Barry Bonds, Clemens, and many more & it just keeps comin'...

Doesn't bother me. Baseball is a stats driven game. Just the way it is.

He didn't have an incentive. If he did then I have zero issues with it.
Dude played an entire season. No different than taking a night off against Halladay in June.

He didn't take a night off, he had one AB and left the game. Weak, IMO. Although, not that big of a deal because it's a marathon and not a sprint.

While not an "incentive" in his contract he is a free agent.

Interesting you'd mention him. I'm pretty sure he'd have some harsh words for Reyes if you were to catch him on the phone (or at the track) right now.

Considering Pete's propensity to take any interview I'd be a little shocked if we didn't hear his opinion on this.

Really, questions about Reyes coming out of the game when he did brought tears to the Mets' manager's eyes? Wow.

True, but at least you know he'll be honest.

Wait, that's not it either.

Collins obviously doesn't drink Miller Lite
