And I'm not sure that I subscribe to the notion that a beatdown is always good either. I realize there has to be a happy medium. A schedule of creampuffs doesn't prepare you for the post season, but getting your hind end handed to you doesn't help much either IMO.

 

I don't prescribe to beatdowns. I think our defense killed us against Sciotoville. Our only beatdown has been Ashland and that tends to be cyclic. We can and do play with them more than not. I think the last 3 games just exposed a 1A vs a very talented 4A/5A school. As far as having a "thing" for F'views schedule, I don't. I do, however, opine that you can't learn to compete in a tight game if you are never seeing adversity and playing 2+ quarters of non-competitive ball. Like I said earlier in this thread; F'view is a very talented team and may hand us our lunch in 3 weeks. I just hate to see a good team not step up to the plate and play more competitive teams. Other local teams, not just Raceland, will schedule and play tough games, regardless of class and regardless of location to make themselves better and quite frankly, I think it gains respect of others. JMO

Not saying it doesn't. But for all the conjecture on here about their schedule, I don't think that one kid in a Fairview uniform thinks about, or wonders why their schedule isn't tougher. They think they should win them all. And maybe there's something to be said for that. If their schedule is so soft that it comes back to bite them in the butt, maybe Nate will see that and try to add some different teams. Again, it will all come out in the wash when playoffs roll around.

And IF Fairview does happen to beat Raceland, maybe there will be a different attitude about their schedule. If not, then maybe the schedule thing is valid.

Doc, I agree. Too much moaning about their schedule. I am guilty of throwing my 2 cents in the mix. I just think that once a team has proven itself to be a talented and winning program you have to take the next step and that is scheduling better and more reputable opponents. Do you have to schedule Beechwood and Highlands, no, but it certainly needs to beef up. Again, not slamming F'view, just stating my opinion on the topic.

The reason I do not think this one will be close is in large part because of this-Last week G.C.C. statered 6 freshmen due to the injury bug hitting them.

 

All-Ohio fullback in Anthony Roark and senior quarterback Ben Whitaker might be out again this week forcing G.C.C. to go young again.

 

 

 

If the injured players were back I still think F-View wins but not in a blowout.

I am basically sgreeing with you doc. As I said, Fairview has put a whoopin' on us lately so maybe thats the way to go.

I find it funny though that the Raceland guys are hammering Fairview about their schedule without knowing a single thing about Grove City.

What makes you think we don't know anything about Grove City? As for hammering, i think you're overstating it a little bit...I for one have never hammered them. As far as the schedule goes, it is what it is...soft.

Have to agree with sidelinedoc...if we had the same schedule we wouldn't be 2-4. I'll give Fairview credit, they're talented and have won the games they're supposed to win, but be realistic, they're not playing Ashland, Pikeville, or Lawrence Co. either. We'll see how it shakes out on the 14th.

The teams they have played have a combined record of 5-20. Phelps has three of the five wins. You can go 10-1 or 11-0 in the regular season. But you won't get the respect you deserve till you play a schedule that makes you lay it all out each and every week. IMO the injury bug sould not be a problem come playoff time. The starters are only playing two and three quarters per game. And you only really have to get pumped up for one or two regular season games. I guess it does save on scouting! There is no doubt that the eagles are one of the most talented teams in the area. But will anyone really know for sure how good? The one big game you have is with us. And we are so down I doubt that it raises your status any if you win this one big game. Play a schedule that will not only make your school proud. But everyone in the area respect you. You got the stadium and the talent now. Play the Russell's and Ashland's and gain some respect. They can be beaten! Any look at the revenue. Could pay off that new stadium a little faster..

Spindoc, you and I had a conversation a few weeks ago regarding "rivalries" and the bashing that goes on between schools. The biggest problem is that these kids all respect each other, it is the adults that make these games into more than they are. Just play the game. BGP is a fun forum for us adults to discuss games, teams and players but far too often we take things too personal and it becomes so overblown and overstated that raw, negative emotions spill over and we put too much expectation on the backs of these high school boys. That being said, I want to be 10-0 every year but when we lose 14-12 to Lawrence County in a hard fought, well played game, I am happy and don't walk around all gloomy. There has to be a winner and a loser and when you leave it all on the field, it's hard to be down.

With regard to watcthing film, I personally watched Sciotoville and they did not look good at all. LOL I think we were beaten by 22!!!!! Film doesn't always tell the entire story.

Spindoc I don't think this is petty. Just trying to say that Fairview has a very very good team. And that if they want the respect that I think that they want out of eastern kentucky. Then they should beef up the schedule some. IMO the eagles can handle most of the good teams in the east. Just like to see them prove it and not leave doubts in everyones minds. By beating the Rams this year if you do won't prove anything. If you want to be the best. You should play some of the best. Thats all. No doubt the eagles have very talented players. And lots of them. And to go through a schedule that is so weak that the starters never have to play the fourth quarter. IMO is not going to help come playoff time. And believe me I want all of our area teams to win come playoff time. What happens when the eagles have to go up against a second or third round playoff team like one of the mountain teams. Or go up against a Beechwood or Louisville Holy Cross. Do the coaches know how the team will react? Beating the tomcats, devils bulldogs, panthers and other good teams might not happen often as we would like. But when we do win. It's like no other feeling! It's not just another win. It's VICTORY!

Well, sometimes perception is reality. I get PM after PM that ask me why Raceland fans can't restrain from bashing Greenup or bashing Fairview. And to be quite honest, that is the perception. Go back, read this thread, and try to read it without bias, and see the venom in some of the posts.

I'm tired of hearing about Fairview's strength of schedule. They played the same sort of schedule last year and if I remember correctly they whipped our tails up and down the field and went on to give LCA all they wanted. The team may not be facing the toughest schedule, and there are questions about their roster, but they are learning to win and that has to mean something. I'm a diehard Raceland fan, but eventually you have to stop sugar coating things. I know this response is bound to get someone's knickers in a wad, but I have to get it off my chest.
