Simon Kenton 7 Holmes 6

Featured Replies

Evenly matched game. Hard hitting by both teams. Both teams have very good defenses and below average offenses. They will both have trouble beating anyone that can score. They could play 10 times and it would be like this probaly split.

The game was 0-0 until 9 minutes left when Holmes drove about 40 yards for a score. Stopped SK, then went three and out. With about 3:00 left SK took

advantage of a shanked punt and drove it about 50 yards down the field with Powell and 22 (sorry I don't know his name) gaining 5-8 yards per play. made the

extra point with about 2:00 minutes left. Both Defensive lines dominated the game. One big play by SK in the first half a 57 yard pass that went to the 20 then

nothing. Holmes missed an interception in the flat that would have probably been 6. By and large a defensive struggle. Both of these teams have defenses that

can compete with anyone, however, their offenses must improve greatly to reach .500. There were lots of three and out until both teams decided to go for it on 4thdown then there were lots of four and outs.

It looks like Holmes is much better than everyone thought they would be this year.

"Evenly matched" is nice.

Other than the fact they cannot score.

Neither offense could get it going tonight.Simon Kentons Quarterback was in the shotgun all night and the center snapped it high 99% of the time.

Are you sure this wasn't a baseball game?

276 yards total offense.

Combined.

Not good on the eyes. I honestly thought the first to score would win and it was close. Both offenses were beyond poor while both defenses were pretty stout. SK will have a tough time winning any district games if they don't find themselves on the offensive end. The high snaps not only are a potential turnover but also aren't good for timing. I thought they would go under center a bit more but they only did so twice in the 2nd half. Bowling and Schneider were big on defense tonight and they never gave up so that's one positive.

Holmes is playing a lot of players one way except for Peterson. They might have to start playing some players both ways, especially on the line. They might finish 3rd in 4A (should beat Pendleton and Harrison), but going to Boyle or Lex Cath in 1st round of playoffs will be all they do. They really play hard but have no off line and QB should be playing fullback or LB. He's a good athlete but not a QB. He must be all they have, though. they did try to get it to Peterson alot but SK had that covered.

I think it is time SK gets a hold of some SK alumni to teach the SK linemen some blocking techniques. Because they are not learning how to block right now. The 3 former SK players in mind are listed below. SK needs coaching help fast!

Matt Coppage- Ohio University- 4 year starter, 2006 1st team all-MAC

Sean Funke- Northern Arizona University-2 year starter

Mike Webster-University of Kentucky-2year starter

I agree about Knox, I think they'd be better off with a more athletic QB behind center. Heck I'd take a look at Peterson with his athletic ability.

Defensive struggle tonight.

I agree with many things posted in this thread. I don't see SK beating Dixie or Boone because they look deficient on offense. With the exception of their scoring drive they never really pounded out any sustained drive. SK had the one long pass play on a busted coverage, but went no further.

They have a few nice players, and their defense is pretty good, but it is tough to say because Holmes's offense is just that bad.

It's hard to tell what Holmes is actually running. Knox is a big kid but not much of a runner. He has a nice arm, but lacks touch and any accuracy. They are very limited with him back there. This is not a knock on him but he just looks out of position. Another issue is their offensive line, and that may be the biggest issue. They have essentially had to replace their entire OL from a year ago and they are young and still have a ways to go.

Holmes's playcalling was very suspect as well, particularly their series they had where they went three and out and punted, in which SK took the ball and drove for the winning TD.

I give Holmes's defense credit. This group plays hard and pursues very well and gets the turnovers, but their offense simply can't do anything with it. Number 74 for Holmes didn't play tonight and he is a moose, and a freshman I think.

I was wrong they would play Ashland Rowan or Johnson Central in 1st round, same results.
