I hate hearing about any kid getting hurt. Devastating injury, my prayers are with this young man for a sucsessful surgery and complete recovery.

Any partial tear can "repair" itself in the sense that scar tissue will form. However, scar tissue is never as elastic as the original ligament and therefore will not stretch as well, leaving it vulnerable to injury in the future.

 

If a ligament is completely torn, it will not reconnect and repair itself. Surgery is required.

And the truth shal set you free!!!!! Having had a few knee injuries myself I know a thing or two about them............. Believe me, I'd much rather not know squat about knee injuries.

 

But just an FYI partial tears to critical ligaments such as the ACL do not heal themselves and often times require surgery.

Ummm ya???? If you read any thing I said afterward or know anything about knee injuries, which I doubt you do, he'd be lucky for it to be the MCL and LCL. If it is his meniscus on either side he has a much higher risk of reinjury as well. But hey I don't know what I'm talking about aparently based on your reaction,.... except that I do.

 

Not sure why you insist on getting personal. You have no idea how extensive my knowledge of knee injuries is, so why speculate? The only thing that could happen is you would be wrong, why take the chance?

 

For the record, I've been a knee patient. Also, for the record, I was simply pointing out that no completely torn ligament can reattach itself.

 

As a couple docs have posted, knee injuries are graded, and a grade III or complete tear is always going to require surgery. It's been my experience that what many are calling partial tears are actually termed sprains. But I guess that's just semantics. Maybe a doc can help me out on that, as I know just being a patient doesn't necessarily mean I know everything.

I saw this kid's knee from a fairly close distance. This was the worst knee injuries I have ever seen. Best wishes to that young man on his recovery.
