Flotsam Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Game played in the rain, oh my goodness - we need a dome!!... (with lights)
Theoldguy Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Game played in the rain, oh my goodness - we need a dome!!... (with lights) Funny how this week weather has been up and down. Saturday game time temp of 101, Monday game time high of around 56, Wednesday rain and temp in the upper 50's. True NKy weather from one day to the next you never know what to except.
C-BOY78 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Another good performance by the defense. The number one's have not given up a score since the first quarter of the Campbell Co. game. The offense found the running game tonight, but still to many drop passes. Conner had 28 kids and 2 coaches on the sidelines, future does not look good with so few kids.
Clyde Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Conner had 28 kids and 2 coaches on the sidelines, future does not look good with so few kids. Shocking number. Dixie is in the same boat. Really surprising and disappointing.
Voice of Reason Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 You guys think 28 is a bad number for a freshman roster? That doesn't sound that bad to me. I'm not saying it's great but if the majority stick and you have that number every year that equals a 75 man varsity roster. If 28 is bad, what number would you think is good?

For the larger schools I would expected to see 40-50 kids And just from want I have seen, only around half the kids return for their Soph. year. And the three teams CovCath has played, all three teams played only about 15 kids.

Highlands is not a big school and has 52 or 53 I believe..
C-BOY78 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Highlands is not a big school and has 52 or 53 I believe.. I should have said 4A thur 6A schools. But those are very good numbers for Highlands, but how many kids are playing both ways. CovCath has 4 or 5 kids playing both sides of the ball and that is not every series. CovCath is playing around 20-22 kids with first team offense and defense.

The Baby Birds play 24 or 25 on a regular basis not including special teams..

I guess it can be different at each school but it seems to me that a 50 to 60 kid freshman roster means about 30 return for their sophomore year. Maybe Conner and Dixie will have a higher retention rate but each school probably has 150 boys in the freshman class.
Bluesport Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 CCH usually has about 40 Frosh and it seems like only 18-20 play through Senior year so if 14 stick it out for 4 yrs that's not much different.

Theoldguy Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 40 sounds low. Currently there are 51 players on the CovCath Freshmen roster and while I don't have the 2010 nor 2009 roster in front of me, I believe both teams had more than 51 players on them but not by much.
