theguru Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 1. Central vs. 6A #7 Ballard 2. Paducah Tilghman at 5A Graves County 3. Bell County at 5A Whitley County 4. Belfry at 2A #5 Prestonsburg 5. Breathitt County vs. Jackson County 6. Corbin vs. 2A #6 Danville 7. Russell vs. 4A Ashland 8. Edmonson County vs. 2A Hancock County (9/10 at Butler County) 9. Fort Campbell vs. 2A Fort Knox 10. Garrard County at 5A Lincoln County
Commander 25 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I think that Bell County should be ranked ahead of Pad Tilghman.
billwilliams70 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I think that Bell County should be ranked ahead of Pad Tilghman. Good rankings, but I agree with Commander 25. Fort Campbell drops from 6 to 9 with a very disappointing loss to 5A's 5th ranked Warren Central, but Pad Tilghman loses to (certainly not as large of a margin as Fort Campbell's loss) 1A powerhouse Mayfield and they're ranked #2.....Bell County should be higher. Just my two lincolns though. Later.

flashdaddy Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 i agree Tilghman's loss should put them behind Bell....Although with the QB only playing a quarter and a half due to a concussion the previous week i would understand this ranking...Plus Mayfield could beat most 5A schools this year. Tilghman rebounds this week against Graves and starts to figure things out offensively and solidifies their #2 ranking

Morehead State Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I would have the top 4 more like this... Central Bell Co Belfry Paducah Tilghman JMO!
gchs_uk9 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I believe that Central is without a doubt the #1 team in 3A. After Central, you put Bell, Belfry, Tilghman, and probably Breathitt in a hat and pull one out. They are all very good teams. Choosing between those teams might have something to do with where a potential game between them would be played. After those, there is a whole slew of teams with good wins but still questions that could be ranked. I think you would include Russell, Edmonson, Garrard, Fort Campbell, Trigg County, Pike Central, Larue County, etc. in that group. But to sum up, 3A seems to be 3-tiered as of right now.
Commander 25 Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I would have the top 4 more like this... Central Bell Co Belfry Paducah Tilghman JMO! That looks good to me.
Watusi Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I agree with a lot of what gchs_uk9 says above, nice summary. One of the problems with early season rankings is it involves a little more art than science. Later in the year when you can clearly see these teams' body of work, it gets a little easier to gets your ducks in a row, so to speak. A good case could be made for Bell Co or Tilghman for #2, and maybe even Belfry, although I'm not sure they are at that level yet. We don't really know how good Mayfield is, or Lex Cath or Lafayette for that matter. I'm not so sure at this point that Mayfield wouldn't beat either of those teams (both of which seem to be about even with Bell Co at this point) just as badly as they beat Tilghman.
The Scribe Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Bell and Tilghman are a toss up. I just think that speaks to how strong Mayfield is. And I feel confident that Mayfield could beat Bell County. Mayfield could beat any team in the lower three classes.

You might be right but if Mayfield is basically the same team that played in Bowling Green last year they can't beat Bell County. Bell is just to physical and tough for them. JMO
