I feel I am one of the most unbiased, realistic CCH fans on here but I am going to say this as just a observer, this score does not does nothing for me. I feel as confident about CCH as I did prior to the game other than they can't cover a kickoff or a punt, and they still need work in the secondary.

 

CCH had 267 yards of offense, LaSalle with 240 tells you they played well and just shot themselves in the foot numerous times.

 

Here's a quick summary:

 

 

*CCH gets the ball 1st goes 75 yards down to the 5 in 3 plays. Next play from scrimmage they bobble the snap and LaSalle returns it to the 40 of CCH. 4 plays later it was 7-0 LaSalle.

 

*CCH punts after a couple 1st downs and LaSalle returns the punt for a TD 14-0.

 

*CCH goes 70 yards and stops at 10, and settles for a FG 14-3 LaSalle.

 

*LaSalle goes 3 and out, and CCH gets ball at 20. CCH goes down field for TD..14-10 LaSalle after 1.

 

Total yards at this point was about 190 CCH, LaSalle 40 and yet LaSalle led.

 

*Talkers then for the 1st time all year doesn't kick it in the endzone and LaSalle returns it to CCH 40. Another short field TD 28-10. At that point CCH was starting to get frustrated.

 

*CCH then gets a punt blocked and LaSalle recovers at the 1. Another TD 35-10...downward spiral.

 

*Bir gets intercepted on a throw he usually wouldn't have made. LaSalle scores again 41-10.

 

So if I'm CCH, take it for what it is. The scoreboard says they got spanked which we know is all that matters. But they know they were playing right with LaSalle, and giftwrapped 4 of the 6 TDs and missed an oppt inside the 5.

 

Judging by CCH's demeanor after the game they were anxious to get back on the field in 2nd half to redeem themselves because LaSalle did bit outplay them. Let's see how they do against Boone Friday.

I will post a scoring summary, but I have to take a shower and cool down a bit as I feel light headed and sick to my stomach after breaking down equipment and putting it away in this heat.

 

The press box although we were out of the sun was a sweat box with little or no wind blowing in and I am soaked to the skin in sweat!

As was stated, the KHSAA doesn't screw around after the incident in Louisville a couple of years ago with game or practice temp over 104 and I was surprised when told that the OHSAA doesn't have such a heat rule!

Scout is 100% correct, the KHSAA has a heat index rule, no gray area. There was no doubt in my mind that it would not be completed. The fumble at the LaSalle 6 on first and goal for the Colonels that was returned to the CovCath 45 was a huge play. As was the punt return for a TD for LaSalle. As was the first kick return of the year against CCH to the Colonel 45, as was the blocked punt at the Colonel one yard line after starting CCH punter was out with an injury. CovCath outgained LaSalle on offense 267 to about 257. Bir threw for 226 and almost 200 in the first quarter. Capano for LaSalle for threw for 79 on 8 for 15. LaSalle ran for 160 and CCH held to 41 and 20 of those came on the last 45 second drive when LaSalle was in prevent. LaSalle was better, but not 31 points in a half better. Bir's only pick of the year he was trying to throw it away and is slipped out of his hand and was tipped and then picked.

Not sure if it was injury or heat. He had two fumbles and CCH recovered the 2nd one. He had 11 carries and 2 catches.

As a neutral I have not lost any respect for Cov Cath after reading the game summary. LaSalle took advantage of turnovers. That is what you are supposed to do.

 

Even if LaSalle is considered "down", which I don't always buy, sounds like protection for a Kentucky team victory, they are still better than 95% of the teams in the bluegrass.

Lets face it the first team CCHS faced this year that was any good they got ROLLED in the 1 half. I am just glad we don't have to hear any more how good they are. Campbell is awful and Dixie well enough said there.

Up on my soapbox:

 

First, lights must be installed on Wooten Field. It is no longer a question of like or need but as of today, it has become a safety issue and I am not just talking about the players on the field! Quite frankly, I was more concern about the fans in the stands, some who are quite elderly and the small children who were attending the game, than the players themselves. If this game had been continued, I honestly think there could have been some very nasty health issue in the stands and remember there is no such rule in Ohio and there wasn't such a rule all that many years ago in Kentucky either!

 

Covington Catholic HS has been an outstanding neighbor to the Community of Park Hills over the past 60 years or so that the school has been located in Park Hills and yes I know a lot of the owners are still living in the same homes they purchased prior to CovCath having a football field but a lot of those same owners sit in their back yards and watch those games be it football or soccer and have for years and years.

 

I think it's time for the Community and CovCath to come to an agreement to allow lights to be installed with measures taken to minimize the nuisance to the neighbors. I think limiting night Football/Soccer games to just CovCath HS games and agreeing to start games no later than 7pm could work for all. I also think putting the sound system on the current visitors side of the field would help keep the noise down as the sound would carry away from the homes.

 

In talking to some of the neighbors, I can understand their concern about CovCath allowing club or youth teams be it for football. soccer or even baseball to rent the fields out for night games and the trouble those games could bring.

 

I think Mr. Rowe should sit down with the City Council and the neighbors and I honestly think a workable solution could be worked out to the benefit of all!

TOG, I appreciate what you're saying, but grown adults that would risk serious health issues attending a sporting event that they on the own choose to go to is insanity on their part. They need to think of their health first and not watching the game.
