Louisville father charged with fraud to get son in Oldham Schools

Recommended Posts

Not the best way to help ensure a quality education for your child, but at least there is no implication that there was an "Athletic" reason for the student wanting to go to Oldham Co schools. Just wanting the best education he thought was available........probably several others doing the same thing!!

^ His address is in Lyndon, which is the neighborhood Ballard High School is in, but that doesn't necessarily have bearing on where he would have been enrolled. That was an extended way of saying that I have no clue what I'm talking about.

 If his "resides" school is Ballard, he would definitely be able to enroll there. If he wanted to go into one the magnet programs, he'd go to the school that offered that program, IF they had space for him. Since he didn't attend any of Male or Manual's feeder schools, which he didn't, he likely wouldn't be able to go to either, unless his father found another way around the system. Neither are "resides" schools to my knowledge.

And, I know this because my daughter and I investigated her attending public high school, and because she was in Catholic grade school, there was no way for her to get into either....bearing in mind she's not an actress, dancer, can't play an instrument, and is pretty much average in math and science.

Male he could apply, and a lot of kids who have good GPAs/Attendance/conduct will get looked at even though the feeder schools were not used, Manual same on the feeder school comment, but its harder to get in for the GPAs. Male is down in numbers this year. As for this kid I feel like we live in Russia.

I'm fully in favor of Oldham Co. protecting their citizens and going after those that illegally take advantage of their services. IMVHO it is no different then illegal aliens that come here in full disregard of our laws in order to provide what they believe is a better opportunity for themselves and their families. In fact instead of passing new laws why not just arrest illegals on the same fraud charges that this man is being prosecuted for?

We live in a very punitive society. What is wrong with a civil lawsuit for the value of the education? Sue the guy and make him pay if that is necessary but how do the taxpayers of Oldham County benefit by having him in jail? My opinion of jailing people for stuff like this has changed as I've gotten older.
