My guess is that fastpitch won't take a back seat for to much longer. ESPN has really been putting it out there a lot during post season play and there ratings beat anything that womens soccer and volleyball would do and are right there with basketball and with all the big conferences having there own stations more and more games will be seen. We all know the power of ESPN just look what they have down with texas holdem.

I have got to know a lot of people from CA, out there softball is king and all the good athletes play softball or basketball first then soccer or volleyball. Due to the weather that might not change around here completely but softball will be a force in years to come.

I hope you are right, but I am skeptical. I have seen nothing to make me think softball will take off in this area. What have you seen in Northern Kentucky that makes you think it will get better? In the last 10 years, no improvements to the recreational facilities, no more and possibly less travel team involvement and no high school(maybe Ryle) that has become a consistent state power.

ESPN would be the #1 reason, hopefully the sport keeps growing. There are more girls getting out and trying to play at a higher level. Seems like more and more kids are taking hitting and pitching lessons. We are still miles away from other areas but you have to start some where.

I can tell you Highlands had their softball meeting for parents last week and it was the largest turnout they have ever had. There were a ton more kids in middle school interested in trying out this year. They are getting to work this week.

If they only had a field to use.

There are a lot of fields around Ft Thomas that can be used for fastpitch. That's the beauty of it. You do not need a full-sized baseball field.

Just go to any park or field and have at it.

I wish that was the case....They are only allowed to play in Death Valley and what a disaster that is.

I know a couple of schools that would love to have that field.

I thought they were talking about finding a place to practice.

According to the school, they are not allowed to practice or play games off campus. After the fiasco with the ambulance not being able to get to an injured player, maybe they will revisit.

Come on are you serious? That is a fooyball field that is turned into a softball field for two months a year. If the school was willing to move a few things around and get some drainage and other things worked out it could be a nice plcae to play. Its a true shame that the only outdoor sport at HHS other then football that does not have its own field is softball and they cant even get on it.

They were going to try and practice on Wed nights on the football field but was told no because the districts no thing after 6pm rule. Not sure if its a true rule or not.

Yes, try playing your home games at the dumb that is softball city. No fences, infield is horriable, you have to be off the fields by the time the adult leagues come in. You can't practice there. There are several other schools that have it alot worse that Highlands.

I have been there twice and have not thought it was that bad that it has to come up every time someone talks about Highlands softball on this board.

Was at a soccer game in the rain last night at Beechwood and they play there home games on the baseball field.

It's not uncommon for sports to share a field.I believe Boone football still uses the baseball field . Boone's baseball survives.

I would think a facility should have some type of bathroom facility available (port-o-let or something), someplace where a handicap person could watch a game, and be able to get an emergency crew to an injured player without having to hike a steep hill with a gurney. The Highlands field could be nice with a little work. And they don't share the field with varsity football, they take a seat to the junior football league.
