Maybe Mel can be a paraprofessional AD at BBHS and Coach at Notre Dame :taz: Lawnboy needs to stick to cutting grass

I'm sure there are many that would agree with this, but then I would have no fun.

:lol::lol:

I agree with the Lawnboy comment but no way should any AD be a paraprofessional and coach at one school while being the AD of another, IMO. :ohbrother:

And your reasoning??????

Well now I agree with ABC2, a horse put out to pasture can probably do a better job, not really familiar with your grass cutting skills anyway, but its not rocket science. Back to the issue, I think the former coach did a very nice job with the ND fastpitch team and was surprised when I heard he was let go. Good luck to him and to the ND fastpitch program. I hope they find a replacement that is as good as he was. Does anyone know if there has been a coach named yet and if not, does anyone know who they are considering as their next coach?

It is actually #5. Track is in front of it.

Make that #7 behind Tennis and Lacrosse - or so it was prior to the last 3 years.

Does softball rank in front of cheerleading at ND? Anything?

Neither of those is taking away softball players IMO.

Soccer, basketball, track, and volleyball are.

Either way I would really like to see ND softball compete with Ryle, Conner, Boone, etc. year in and year out like they do with these other sports. IMO they should be able to, they have over 600 girls enrolled each year.

It's not a function of the number of girls.

If you do not work on the skill year-round especially pitching from a young age AND play in competitive summer ball you will not compete with those schools.

I agree, but isn't this the case with all sports? To be really good you have to work year round in basketball, volleyball, soccer, etc. Why not softball? I guess I just don't understand why a school this size don't have more interest in fastpitch softball. Fastpitch softball is such a fun and great sport to watch and compete in.

You're preaching to the choir on the enjoyment of FP softball. I miss having my daughter on the field.

Far too many girls view softball as a recreational sport in this area. When the high school season ends the glove and cleats go to the closet till next February. My experience watching softball in this area for the last 10+ years is there aren't enough young girls to push the older girls and when a younger girl puts in the work to be better than the older girls the parents go nuts because some 7th or 8th grade girl is playing in front of their daughter. Someone mentioned that Conner always has a young team, somebody tell me when the last time there was a Junior/Senior loaded team in this area?

My guess is that fastpitch won't take a back seat for to much longer. ESPN has really been putting it out there a lot during post season play and there ratings beat anything that womens soccer and volleyball would do and are right there with basketball and with all the big conferences having there own stations more and more games will be seen. We all know the power of ESPN just look what they have down with texas holdem.

I have got to know a lot of people from CA, out there softball is king and all the good athletes play softball or basketball first then soccer or volleyball. Due to the weather that might not change around here completely but softball will be a force in years to come.
