Straight up it would have made sense but not 2 for 1.

I could see making a deal like that only AFTER they have seen what Alonso could do at the Major League level. He has shown some positive signs so far, however the Reds have had many top prospects come up over the years who ended up not being able to do at the Major League level. If Alonso shows he can do it up here at this level, then at that time I would at least start considering trading Votto depending on what they could get in return.

Well I have a Joey Votto jersey so I would have been pretty mad.

I like Votto and would not throw a prospect in with him for this trade. If Votto is gone in 3 years and I have Alonso at first and can add a right handed four hitter.... I'm tempted !

I firmly believe the Reds should have done this trade. Lets Yonder play his natural position, Votto is gone after 2013 anyways, and Joey Bats' versatility with being able to play 3B and OF could really help the Reds. Finally, Bats contract is WAY below market value for the level he produces at. As a complete package (contract, talent, age, etc.) I think only Longo, Tulo, and JUp would rate higher for me if I'm a MLB GM. Even if they wanted a top pitching prospect the Reds have a surplus of young pitching anyways. If the Blue Jays were indeed willing to make this deal then the Reds screwed up.

I don't even know who that is. But I'm a very avid fantasy baseball player and on those sites, chats, twitter, podcasts, etc. you will find nicknames thrown around a ton...it becomes a habit.

I was just messing with you. George Grande is a part-time Fox Sports South announcer. He is notorious for throwing nicknames out there for players. He has called Cal Ripken, "the Ripper" and others that we have talked about on here.
