Aren't you the same one that was okay with bringing Chapman in to face the toughest 3-4-5 hitters in the National league a couple of weeks ago when the game was on the line? I didn't bring it up that he should have brought Chapman in but I do think it would have been a wise decision based on the odds of Ondrusek getting out of trouble with the bases loaded and no outs. Chapman is a big strikeout guy and could have struck out the side easier than anybody else on the staff and maybe baseball.
August 3, 201115 yr The big fallacy in your (and other's) ongoing attacks on Dusty is this - you think your decision/strategy is right and Dusty's is wrong. I do think there have been 2 or 3 decisions Dusty made in the last month that are hard to understand and look like bad moves. But beyond those 2 or 3 decisions, every time you make a point about why in the world is Dusty doing that, more than half of us are saying his move makes sense. Whether it works or not is up to the players - either way. The advantage you have is your alternate decision doesn't happen and we have no way of knowing if it would have worked or not. This Chapman move is a good example. Personally, no way I want Chapman on the mound with the bases loaded, no outs and a walk or wild pitch means we lose. You act like that is a decision that is clear cut and it isn't. Once again go back and look at the thread. I was not the one that said he should have brought Chapman in but I did defend the idea and the fact that I think that Dusty can't react quickly when the game is on the line.

If he continues to progress and the days of 4 straight balls is behind him, then he'll be ready for that type of situation. Not yet. Wait a minute here, timeout. You are the same guy that 2 weeks ago defended using him against Pujols, Halladay and Berkman but today think that you can't use him in a pressure situation. You can't have it both ways.

How do you know he's not down there in the pen wondering if toothpick will ever have confidence to put him in that situation? Goes both ways. Amen!

August 3, 201115 yr Dusty can't think that quick to even get him ready. All he had to do after the hit to give them 1st and 3rd was tell Pryce to get him up, send Hanigan out, walk the bases loaded, send Hanigan out again, then go out and get Ondrusek and make the call to the pen. Should have been enough time to get him ready. Hey guys here's where I defended the Chapman thing later.
