As for this thread. As an athiest, if the government isn't paying for the cross than I could personally care less. If solely funded by private money you can make the thing 1000ft tall and I'm not going to complain.

Yes, but the religion at the time was Christianity, not many of the founding fathers were Islam, Jews, or Atheist. people used to have the fear of God, now our countries leaders and law makers try to find ways to weed out Jesus, god, the Bible from things we used to do, like pray before school graduations, the 10 Commandments in buildings. Now our leaders are afraid to make someone mad and the Christians are the ones who are discriminated against.

Can we please not start this crap again. Christians in this country have as much to complain about discrimination as white males do. The fact is no one is stoping you from praying before a graduation, posting the 10 commandments in your place of business, or any of the other things some christians try to cry about. Should a christian symbol be displayed in a government building, absolutely not. Not unless every other relgion is represented there. What were your thoughts on teh mosque to be built near ground zero?

Woods, Not real sure, but only can speak from myself and people I actually know. I lost my sister at the age of 8/mom 53/dad/59. Did I blame God, no we die. When I got laid off from the railroad did I blame God? No, when I was the only one they hired back did I praise God? You bet I did.

And back to the topic, if I was an atheist, why would it matter to me if someone put up a symbol of their God in whom I don't believe? It would stand to reason that they would think that Christians are as delusional as I think atheists are. I agree with acemona's post #3

God understands when we cry out to Him, or even complain to him about out various burdens. But we have to understand that He is all good, and all that is good is Him. He knows we suffer sometimes, and doesn't like it anymore than we do. But I better hush now, as we're heading away from the topic.
