Its pretty obvious that this ruling has upset the Buckey haters. I am pretty sure that the NCAA has investigated this a little more than the posters on this site and they are the ones making the rulings.

I am indifferent when it comes to Ohio State. They are a great program so I like to see them succeed.

 

My biggest issue with this whole fiasco is the decision by both the NCAA and the University to play the "Buckeye 5" in the bowl game. By this time the writing was on the wall for vacated games, Tressell being unemployed, etc. yet we are supposed to believe all of this was unknown before the bowl game? To me, swamprat, that would have been more proactive cooperation than playing nice later on (which they did).

Because I have a differing opinion with the ruling I am a "hater"? Does that mean only an apologist finds it as an acceptable ruling? Surely there is a segment of America (the overwhelming majority) that have no pro or negative feelings towards tOSU. That is where I stand.

The other sports have nothing to do with football IMO. Sure they add to the punishment, but you cannot compare them fairly in this case. USC football = Reggie Bush's sins. OSU had how many players involved in this? This was run-in with the NCAA number 3 or so for Tressel, was it not? I know you're an OSU fan but justifying the slap on the wrist OSU is going to get is nuts.

 

I think it does with regard to the Lack of Institutional Control ruling against USC since it was a systemic problem involving multiple sports. It will be the first ruling against Tressel at Ohio State. Including anything he did or did not do at Youngstown State in no way could go toward Lack of Institutional Control by Ohio State.

Prove to me that I'm a Buckeye hater. Prove it. When have I ever said anything that could possibly be looked at as being from a negatively biased angle. There are some teams I cannot stand like UF or FSU, but I'm usually pretty fair to OSU.

In fairness no punishment has yet to be handed down so we shall see what the verdict is. At first glance you have to be ecstatic to be a tOSU fan.

I do not have a problem with anyone having an opinion on the matter but don't get upset when a fan from that team reacts to the comments that are made. I have not said that the punishments fit the crime but I an not suprised in the least by the ruling by the NCAA on Friday. I still anticipate the NCAA adding penalties, I just am not sure what they will be. I just did not think this entire time a bowl ban or TV ban would come into play.

 

By the way as far as the Sugar Bowl goes. I defended Tressel in playing the players at that time because the NCAA had ruled them eligible to play. We did not know at that time that Tressel knew about the whole situation or there is no way I would have taken up for him. For him to play the players at that point and to still not come clean probably played a big role in him no longer being the head coach. He says he was protecting his players by not telling when he found out but at that point he was protecting himself. He has no one to blame but himself for being unemployed.

To add to my point, my issue is with the University more than Tressel the more I think about it. We all knew he was slimy. tOSU knew about this, and according to this report they did nor did they think it was appropriate to be reprimanded prior to the bowl game...

You are correct and I actually agree with you. However, the fact that once cornered, OSU laid down their weapons and, to me, that garners points the NCAA considers. Even when the evidence against them was overwhelming, USC was still defiant. I'm not saying it's right, but that is what I perceive.

 

I'm not trying to defend OSU, nor am I trying to be accusatory. My beef is, as yours is, with the NCAA. I've already said on this subject, that the ignorance declared by both Smith and Gee to what Tressell and his players were doing, is the definition of "Lack of Institutional Control". As far as I am concerned, anyway. Obviously, the NCAA has a different definition. We have to wait for the punishment to be handed out, but as it looks now, the NCAA is giving the impression that they are ruling in an uneven manner, yet again.

The players and Tressel (an OSU employee) may have "acted alone", but to imply the University was oblivious seems far-fetched to me.

I feel the same way about Auburn and Oregon.
