Tressel's future

Featured Replies

My question is this: Why did anyone ever think Tressel had any integrity?

Perception. If you can make them perceive it, they will believe it. The mark of a great con artist.

But how long does this keep the man from returning back to the game? I listed two football coaches who did wrong and have jobs. He made some bad decisions but he controlled the Big 10 almost every year, won a NC. I see him back in less than a year some where.

I could see Tressel ending up back at Youngstown St. They have not been as high profile since he left to take the Ohio St. job. He won 4 National Championships there and I do not think they have won one since he left. I do not know that they have even had any playoff success since he left.

Plus, the scrutiny for that hire would be minimal as opposed to a BCS conference school taking a chance on him.

So he would be hired back on to somewhere his teams at YS committed multiple NCAA violations? I'm just not seeing it. Maybe he will coach in Ohio D-III?

Like the a fore mentioned Hal Mumme, who is now at D-III McMurry University.

Well, I went back and read their replies and 8 out of 10 folks say No, and most because of the same reason as above but the word dishonest/cheater being used a lot. One poster mentiones Hal Mumme/Mike Price still getting jobs after messing up. One other guy/gal mentions Eddie George wanting Charlie Strong at OSU.

On a side bar issue, there is so far no TV mention of the Cats/Cards game. CBSS and ESPNU have room.

Mike Price supposedly got caught drinking and bedding an exotic dancer, the latter accusation he denied. SI settled a 20 million dollar libel and defamation suit, he filed against them. Regardless, he did not violate any NCAA rules. That's why he immediately got a FBS (D1) coaching job at UTEP, which he as held for the last 8 seasons. They love him there.

Exactly.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Tressel ends up at another BCS team in the next few years, that is if he still wants to coach. There were rumors floating around before the investigation that he was looking toward a front office job out of coaching anyways. Look at Lane Kiffen. Although not directly named in the investigation, he was the OC at USC while Bush was there and the university hires him away from UT even though he was being investigated for recruiting violations at UT. So I don’t think it would be completely unprecedented for Tressel to coach again at another BCS school. Not to mention he by no means is the only coach or is OSU the only school violating NCAA rules, they are just the latest to get caught.

Swamp, there were two ladies, and thats not a problem either, Bama didn't like the over useage of an University of Alabama credit card the ladies were allowed to use, that was the problem, but he would have been gone anyway. Mike Dubose had an affair with his secretary and was able to coach the next season. So was Coach Plaid Coat in basketball. When he slapped her he had to go. Man, did we have some issues are what?

I see him taking a pro position, before he goes to UK.

I don't see any teams from major conferences being interested in him soon. Between everything he did at OSU, I would be surprised to see him coaching at the

D1 level again. If he's involved in football any more, it will be in D2 if not lower or the NFL.
