Disagree with Jim & Mountain Ref. Christians worship a God who has revealed Himself in the person of Jesus Christ. Neither Jews nor Muslims believe in that God. It is true that all three trace their lineage, in some aspect, to Abraham.

 

But it is Jesus and exactly who Christians believe him to be that makes a crucial distinction between our faith & that of Islam & Judaism.

The same God who created the universe is the God of Abraham, the same God Jews, Muslims and Christians pray to. Same God; the difference being that each religion defines His nature in a different fashion. That does not make Him a separate entity from religion to religion.

I think that it has more to do w/ a radical belief that the Western world is desecrating God...at least nowadays. In the past, it was a battle b/n a very advance Islamic world hoping to build a political/religious empire vs a mostly Catholic world trying to contain theirs.
