June 4, 201115 yr I have tired really hard to like Dusty, but his idiotic managing just keeps me from doing that. Today is another perfect example, or maybe I'm just too stupid to understand. Maybe somebody can explain it to me. Pay no mind to the results of his decision today, but just the decision by itself. On Tuesday night Dusty let's his AAA pitcher bat, while trailing 4-1, and the Reds with the bases loaded, and no outs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Dusty's answer to that was that the bullpen was just too overworked, and he didn't have the pitchers available to finish the game. Fast forward to today's game. The Reds are winning 4-2 in the bottom of the 7th. The Reds have their ace on the mound, and he has thrown only 88 pitches, and Dusty decides he needs to pinch hit for him. Dusty had just used Ondrusek, Masset, and Cordero for 1 inning a piece the night before, and the Reds have Travis Wood going tomorrow, and he knows more than likely he'll probably have to go to the bullpen again tomorrow by the 7th inning. Dusty simply has no clue when it comes to managing a pitching staff. There is no rhyme or reason to his decision, and it absolutely drives me crazy. Well they did need those runs Heisey drove in...But maybe Cueto wouldn't of needed runs if he stayed, who knows...I do think he should've left Masset in, they weren't hitting him hard...Now the bullpen is almost exhausted for extras, Coco is left and who else idk...But Dusty used Masset, Bray and Ondrusek in one inning...

If you can't pinch hit for a pitcher when you're trailing 4-1, and your team has the bases loaded because of an over worked bullpen, why pinch hit for your ace in the bottom of the 7th when you're already up 2 runs, and your pitcher is only at 88 pitches. I never disagreed with you I was here during that game arguing the same point im just saying what if Cueto hits for himself and the Reds get no more Runs and then Cueto comes back out and gets rocked...Cueto was cruising and I agree with what you are saying, but you can always say what if...If it would've played out the same way had Cueto stayed in, meaning he got into trouble and the bullpen gave up a 5 runs the Reds would not still be playing right now...You never know...

You need to let your ace hit for himself, and go back to pitch the top of the 8th when you're already up 2 runs, and he is only at 88 pitches. No sense working your bullpen more than it's needed, especially when you will probably have to use them again tomorrow. Dusty is an idiot. End of story.
