What if he shows up to just get a pay check? What if he comes back and lets the rookie beat him out? I know that might be career suicide, but so has been playing in Cincy...

And it's his way of playing hardball if Brown plays hardball with him. That is my point. He could come back out of shape and not knowing one play. They would really play him then?

It has nothing to do with believing or not believing in Dalton. A proven veteran QB wins over any rookie in the NFL and there isn't a team out there that wouldn't prefer to start a proven veteran. Carolina would start Palmer over Cam Newton without thinking twice. If I were the Bengals, I would hold onto Palmer as long as possible and hope he comes back. I would probably keep him all season unless the team was winning a lot with Dalton at QB. If Palmer sits out the whole year, then Dalton has a year's experience and if I am happy with him, I look at trading Palmer. Not until then and even then, not unless I like what I see out of Dalton.

If you're best player and supposed leader and QB wants to disrupt the franchise he can. Is all that worth it?

Then you cut him. I guess.

Then Cincy gets nothing from him. Don't get me wrong I would love that, but I'm trying to be objective here.

1st day that trades are allowed, they need to pull the trigger. It does the Bengals no good to kkep him now. If you want a vet, pick up McNabb for a season.

Which is why he has leverage. If he gets cut he can go anywhere.

Totally agree.

No way you cut him. If they can trade him for a solid veteran in a good deal, I am OK with that. I am not trading him for draft picks. The key is the Bengals want to win this year and a veteran QB is almost surely necessary for that to happen. If you can't get a starter quality veteran QB in return for Palmer, play the waiting game as I stated above.

Do you all honestly think Palmer would do that? Palmer does not have much leverage here at all, and doesn't have the personality to do that. I mean look the man can't even come out himself and say he doesn't want to play for the Bengals. He has other people say it for him, so I very much doubt he would do that. Yes now that would have been a smart if say someone like Chad did that two years ago, because he would have no problem doing that. However you got to look at the person in this situation, and you can't honestly believe can you that Palmer would do that. If he would come back, he is the type of person who would give 100%. I don't know how you could think otherwise with him. If he can't even come out and say it himselp, there is no way to think he would do that.

Voice of Reason has it right. The Bengals are not looking to just trying to be good 2 seasons from now, they believe they can win this year. Which they really should believe, because they have a very winnable schedule and young talent. However the best chance of them winning this year is with Palmer playing. So they could build for the future with all the young guys, and still play to win this year if Palmer plays. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if Dalton sits a year or two.

So they should try to call Palmer's bluff. Then if he really doesn't decide to play. Then in the season try to trade him for whatever you can get for him then. However there is no reason to throw this year away, because they really can be a team that could win the division again this year with Palmer.

If they keep Palmer and he plays, he better perform. All we heard in the preseason last year was that 2010 was make or break for Palmer. Guess not in most minds. At this point Palmer would be stupid to play with the Bengals this season. He is practically in a no win situation now. 1st pick six and he will be booed off the field.

We have no idea how pro athletes or any celebrity will act in any situation. We are led to believe what they want us to believe. We're all making guesses. To answer you though, no I don't think that is his personality. However if he wants to play hardball b/c Mike Brown plays hardball with him I would never put it past him. No matter what anyone thinks, believes or is told turning away from $50M when you feel you have something left in the tank is going to be really difficult.

Rightfully so... If you act like you are some Hall of Fame QB and have a terrible year like he did last year what does he expect? It's not like we will be missing out on much if he doesn't come back.

HT. You and I are in complete agreement regarding Carson the Great.:thumb:
