Wedding gifts for parents?

Featured Replies

I just don't understand it. In my opinion, it is a day about the bride and groom, not the parents. Who comes up with all these dos and don'ts? I wouldn't want or expect my child to buy me a gift on their wedding day, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I didn't expect it and was completely surprised by it, but Tootsie, to know that the wanted to show their appreciation for what we did to help them throughout the planning process, and the speech they prepared and presented at the rehearsal dinner was truly touching. I was humbled. When I look at the mantle, and I see that picture and read the inscription on the frame, it still makes me cry.

I'm sure it does and I'm not trying to downplay their gift. If they decided to give you a gift because they wanted to, thats a very nice thing.

I just think too many people focus on doing all the "required" wedding rituals and if you are buying gifts, etc. because you think you have to or because of some made up ettiquette rule, then I don't understand it.

Thanks RM! Very helpful!!!! And no, I'm not that enlightened  but she certainly has taught me a lot about weddings, mostly how expensive stuff is!!

Grandbabies......that's all.
:thumb:Yeah I have had 2 kids get married since 2005 and we were given nothing at the time of the weddings except bills nor did we expect anything . Since then the one has given us two beautiful Granddaughters and the other will give us a grandson in about two weeks !!!:D

I have to agree with that. This is the first I have ever heard of parents getting gifts.

I just hooked my in-laws up with the ability to not have to spend money on their daughter anymore... It was a little gift, but it'll save them a small fortune over time.

My son and daughter-in-law each wrote a letter to the in-law parents. It was read by a brother/sister during the service. Each set of parents later received a framed copy of their letter with a wedding picture. Not an expensive gift, but very sentimental. AND... Hangman. We still spend.
