What regions have the worst records in the Sweet 16?

Featured Replies

The 9th only has 2 state titles(one very recent), are there any regions that have none(I'm sure there are)? Are there any regions without a Sweet 16 win or with a considerably bad record?

Every region has won the Sweet 16. Some have been long, long, LONG ago, but every one of them has won the Sweet 16.

We've done it before where we looked up the records in the last 20-25 years or so. I believe in that span the 14th Region was the worst. They haven't had a team make the state championship since the legendary Carr Creek team in 1956, which is the longest drought by a region. The 1st Region has been waiting since 1959.

Also, technically the 9th Region has three titles. Lexington High School (eventually Henry Clay) won in 1922 as a member of the 9th Region. I think the NKY schools were in the 10th Region back then.

I was about ready to say the First Region has to be in the running. Nice research. The 1st region has had a couple deep runs the past 15 years or so, but relatively little success in other seasons.

How long has the Sweet 16 been around?

Since 1916 in some capacity, but under the KHSAA since 1918. 1922 was the first year all region winners advanced.

We've had some final four runs since then, but only two teams have made it to the finals in the last 50 years, Carlisle County in 1983 and Paducah Tilghman in 2002.

Typically NKY trades basketball titles for Football titles. NKY is more of a Football area then basketball, wouldnt you agree?

Thats a no brainer, northern ky is incredible with football success.
