You guys can argue all you want about keeping privates in but the rest of the states in America are separating the privates out, it will only be a matter of time before Kentucky does it as well.

It has been years (as in decades as you point out) but I do remember a central argument being that Jefferson was 'guaranteed' a spot in the finals. But the point on travel is very valid. Even with the current setup this is another area where the large metro (Louisville, Lexington) schools have an 'advantage' since they are centerally located in the state. 4-5 hour drives for playoffs are a challenge for any team.

The current system has solved (to a certain extent) the issue of non-JC schools having a chance to be in the championship round. Now we could have been looking at a Henry Clay-Warren Central matchup friday but that did not come to fruition. With the current arrangement the Region winners from Eastern and Western Kentucky alternate the regional championship games year to year. That is why John Hardin hosted St.X and Trinity hosted Boone County. This is also why Warren Central hosted St. X and Trinity hosted Henry Clay. Had this same scenario been last season (2004) then the host teams would have been reversed. I believe the current arrangement does allow for the possibility of say a Henderson County versus Paul Dunbar contest without one team being at a distinct advantage or disadvantage like the Paducah Tilghman team of 1980.

Just to clarify ...

 

I wasn't claiming that Tilghman's road adventures were a disadvantage in 1980, only that it seemed foolish for half of the non-Louisville teams to spend all hours on the road while the Louisville teams never left home.

 

As I said, I think that problem has been solved.

I believe they are officially referred to as "Independent City School Systems"--Please refer to them accordingly when you attempt to ban them!! Eventually if some of you guys can get the field down to only a couple teams per region, you can assure yourselves a trophy every year!!!! Wouldn't that make you proud????

 

I wish that PEOPLE would get this!!!!!! An Independent School District means ZERO. They are usually City Schools "PUBLIC" that are independent of the COUNTY that they are in...GOT IT????? Get INFORMED Privates

No tuition. Open enrollment agreement with other schools just like every other public or independent school in the 16th region. I find it hard to believe that someone could post this when it is common knowledge where these kids live.

 

I don't have a problem with it either but given this fact how does a private school like Rose Hill have and advantage? I follow and know far more about the basketball rosters than football. I can tell you that every public school in the 64th district has kids from out of their district. Boyd Co., Ashland, and Fairview all have kids that live out of their district boundries that are prominent basketball players.

 

Let me describe what is unfair in our neck of the woods. Boyd Co. has made a habit of taking kids from the Ramey Home, which is a home for "troubled" kids and placing the athletically gifted ones in a foster home. The same foster home has housed a 6'8" center and now he is housing a kid from Scott County who in several people's opinion is the best player in the 16th region all in the past 3 years. The none athletically gifted kids at the Ramey Home attend school at the Ramey Home the athletes attend school at Boyd Co.

 

So when I hear all the crying about private schools having an unfair advantage it falls on a deaf ear.

They have to get to school and make the grade or they get da BOOT!! If you don't believe there are several open enrollment agreement students that have come to Ashland that are back in their home districts.

For every none district student we except we MUST also except their State CATS test scores. The point behind my post is that "WE" will not keep kids that do produce academically. Plus the reciprocal agreement only applies to surrounding school districts in state :sleep: Any others WILL pay PERIOD.

 

Now to answer your "sounds like a PRIVATE school" comment. "WE" do not offer housing or finicial aid. In other words you private guys have the best of both worlds...Can offer "equal" aid and have ZERO testing accountability.

That frequently accept (and encourage) out of "CITY" and even "COUNTY" transfers, and tuition paying students; especially if they happen to be good athletes!! You ought to try getting informed!!

Sure seems like the Independents have an unusual amount of success when I come from, especially in football!! You might want to check the posts on the previous page or two, by some of your Ashland area brethern aluding to the same fact in your area??

Sometimes "Cities" will have a more diverse population, but that is where it stops. I don't hear Boyle County, or Bell County complaining about the Independents....We follow the SAME rules as the other Public Schools. I just think that some people put WAY to much into Independent because we're the same like it or not :argue:
