I'm sure you're all aware, I'm pretty darned cheap. I buy most all my clothes from consignment/thrift stores. I've refused to subscribe to cable. I rode the bus for years, partly for eco-reason, partly because I'm cheap. I recently purchased a car from my brother for $1500, so after finding out that work subsidies part of my parking, I figured out it costs me less to drive to work, than to ride the bus. So now I drive. I save about $20 a month with that. :lol: Recently I found a way to compensate for the lack of cable. I broke down and bought a wireless router, and now subscribe to Netflix @ $8/month and watch shows and movies cheap. I realize I'm paying $8 that I wasn't, but I take that out of my $20/month savings for driving. So, I'm still $12/month to the good.

 

What are some of your cheap tricks? I'm looking for some ideas. I want to be even cheaper.

HSSRB just told me two days ago, as he often has, that I'm as "tight as bark on a tree." This came after a discussion about how much he spends on clothes.

 

I like having cash in the bank and money to invest so I don't spent a lot.

 

I still do not own an HD TV. I catch a lot of grief over that but the picture looks fine to me.

 

I don't have any of the movie channels on my cable.

 

When I travel for work I get a per diem. I'm not going to lie. I often look at is an "my money" when it comes to eating out.

 

My wife and I eat out a lot so that's my main frivolous expense.

I recently dropped cable with DVR service. I simply have an antenna with Netflix and have not missed cable at all. I still change my own oil and try to do all remodeling/repair jobs around the house by myself.

I still haven't gotten a flat screen TV. In fact, until my son and daughter-in-law got one last summer, I watched TV on a 13" TV, and movies on my "big" TV, because the "big" TV wouldn't get TV channels for some reason. But you could watch movies on it just fine. :lol: They gave me their old TV, so now I can watch TV in my living room, AND I can see the scores of ball games that I watch. :lol:

I'd change my own oil, but I don't have a driveway, only street parking. Part of me still wants to do it, because the old biddy across the street about has a cow if I park my clunker in front of her house. :lol: Imagine how much of a cow she'd have if I went out and crawled under the car and started changing my oil. :lol:

For a college guy I think I'm really cheap. I have money in the bank and still won't really spend on anything. Thursday nights out with my buds is about as much spending as I do, and that usually less than 20 bucks. I think its a good thing for me though since I'm student teaching and will be on the job hunt this summer. Never know where I'll have to move to for a job.

That's pushin' it....and sort of gross :lol:. I wouldn't trust any ziplock that wasn't snagged straight from the box.

The only cheap thing I do is use coupons for lunch when I eat fast food at work.

I don't consider that to be cheap.

I have a programmable thermostat and no one has touched it for years out of fear (it is set on a very frugal setting).

I refuse to pay for parking unless it's a dire circumstance. I will always park free somewhere even if it involves a walk.

I will order my coneys the following way: 1 w/cheese and 2/without. I will take cheese from the single and put it on the other two.

 

Growing up my Dad taught me well. During a shower, he would make my brothers and I turn off the water while lathering up and turn it back on to rinse. He was Mr. Frugal.
