Nice win for Holmes without the two senior starters. More fuel to the fire to keep the Conner thread going :popcorn::popcorn:

The 'Dawgs really played well. I cannot comment on the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I was there but was in a side conversation that took me away from the game. Holmes played the same passive full court press with an aggressive half court defense with trapping and and ball hawking. The half and OT that I saw were even. Conner got some easy shots down low but missed some easy ones also. Holmes did attack the basket. Palmer played very well, as did Rice and Hayes. Really they all played well. Conner only scored two in the OT. They held the ball down 1 for the last minute and missed the shot. Both teams fought hard. Holmes played 8 kids, but mostly the starters and Peterson. Bodes well for the 'Dawgs next year.

Rice led Holmes with 16 pts, 10 rbs.

 

Very impressive victory for the Dogs considering they essentially played 2 juniors, 3 sophomores, and a senior that rarely gets in. This could be a huge boost of confidence for the younger guys moving forward.

 

Holmes is going to be very good next year with Rice, Knox, Peterson, Palmer, and Coston...possibly the best starting 5 in the region? A lot of balance in that group.

Looks like the third quarter was the difference as Conner outscored Holmes by 12 in the other 3 quarters.

 

Surprised to see Peterson not in the box score but good to see the sophomore guard tandem of Coston and Palmer combine for 25 points...both had career highs tonight. The future is definetly bright for the Dogs. Amison with 7 is also somewhat surprising. Credit Coach for helping develop these guys. At the beginning the season Coston and Amison were buried at the end of the bench and now they're contributing in a winning effort.

Debatable considering the success that those 5 had against Dixie in an earlier meeting this year. As far as experience goes, Knox, Rice, and Palmer will have plenty of experience having started this year, as will Coston having started several games as well and seeing a lot of minutes off the bench. Peterson has likely seen more time than Knox and that's as a reserve.

 

Hatton is the only one in Dixie's starting 5 next year that I'd take over any of the Holmes guys.

As a coach all you can do is put them in position to make shots. Conner missed a lot of makeable shots last night.

 

I'd also ask the guards how many times does Holmes have to get the tap from behind while you're dribbling up the floor before you start to be aware of it. How many did Holmes have last night? 10?

Holmes gets a lot of those back-tips. Their quickness allows them to make up for any mistakes on defense.
