February 7, 201115 yr Is it certain that West Carter and Brossart had not given permission to videotape this game? Had they been asked, what response would you anticipate?
February 7, 201115 yr I have no idea why they were taping the game, as no one else here does either. It very well could have been for the purpose of scouting the team. It could have been just video a of nephew or God child, who knows. My point is, to open up a thread with a accusation that someone "is" breaking the bylaw is a very strong statement. No one should have to prove them self innocent, and the automatic assumption of guilt is wrong as well. Add in all the, if's, what if's, could have been's, you want. Until it is known that a rule was broken, it can be no more than, it just looks fishy and may be worth looking into.
February 7, 201115 yr Oh, and why would you videotape games of kids from other schools and send them to their grandparents? Creepy...:eyeonyou:Uhhh, the parent(s), player, or even the grandparents themselves requested it? Or they said they couldnt go/wish they could go see the game but can't, and someone, either family or not, said they would give them a tape of the game?

Someone from a school other than one of the two playing?
February 7, 201115 yr Someone from a school other than one of the two playing? Do you know people from other schools? Other than one school you may support?
February 7, 201115 yr Do you know people from other schools? Other than one school you may support? Certainly, no way I'd ask someone from a different school to videotape a game, though. I would also know a lot more people going to the game to support my kids team and would ask them. Heck, I could even ask the coach for the game film, which is a much more likely scenario than "randomly" picking a friend who happens to be from the team that you will be playing tomorrow if you win the game. Good grief....

Good grief.... It has happened to me on more than just a few occasions, even had to endure some soccer games, which I do not enjoy watching, and a couple of those were in cold weather. If someone is good at videotaping, they will be asked. I never minded the basketball or football games.

If someone is good at videotaping, they will be asked. I never minded the basketball or football games. You're not getting it. I'm not disputing that a person can be asked to videotape a game for someone, even if the cameraman isn't affiliated with the school playing. However, how ironic is it that this happened in a tournament game when the camerman's team would be playing the winner of said game? On top of that, you would think they would be able to find someone to tape the game that lived closer than 2 or 3 hours from Betsy Layne? In your vast videotaping experience, have you ever driven 2-3 hours to videotape two schools that are 2-3 hours away from your school because someone asked you to? Additionally, it would be two teams that your team would, coincidentally, play in their next game?
February 7, 201115 yr I have to say that I am shocked at the number of people blindly defending the actions involved in this event. Sure, it's not known for sure that a rule was broken, but on the surface it looks to be shady at best. Now, if a person from one school was overheard asking a player to transfer to their school people would be on them like foul oder on dog secretion. Even if it was just rumor. But, for some reason people defend a report of a school breaking another rule. If the rules are to be followed, they all should be followed. We can't just pick and choose which ones are important. Plus, I remember schools filming other schools in football and there was quite an up roar about it. I think one school was even fined for it. Why should this be OK? I just don't think it's something for anyone to get that upset over. It is kind of classless, but to each his own. I wouldn't do it, wouldn't have someone do it, or wouldn't watch the tape if someone did it and gave it to me for a team I was coaching. But, I'm not going to get mad about it. Actually, if I'm a team who got videotaped like this, I'd use it for motivation. JMO. Is it certain that West Carter and Brossart had not given permission to videotape this game? Had they been asked, what response would you anticipate? If SID is who I think he/she is, then they would definitely know about WC. I don't think WC would give permission to tape (unless they would have a chance to tape Betsy Lane), but I do think that they would gladly trade tapes if asked.

The rule is applicable to schools filming other schools without the other schools' permission. If a fan of a school makes the film and does not share it his school, it is not a violation. Unless the person filming the game was a representative of the school or shared it with the school, it was not a violation.

Additionally, it would be two teams that your team would, coincidentally, play in their next game? Heck, I've driven 6 hours to watch and tape two teams that we may or may not play in the playoffs. I like watching tape of future possible opponents. As long as I didn't share it with Highlands (which I didn't. Heck, I didn't even let my son on Highlands team watch it), there is no violation.
March 12, 201115 yr What if someone shows up at a game with a video recorder and he's dressed like a chicken with a t-shirt that says "Nobody beats the Cluckity Chicken"... how would the KHSAA rule on this? Would the chicken be sanctioned, or is the chicken well within its rights to do some filming? Also, what if said video footage was later aired at a local KFC? Violation or not? Does the KHSAA have any bylaws pertaining to chicken costumes? It would be very helpful if someone could address my questions before the scheduled Highlands-Trinity football scrimmage in August. Just wanna make sure I (I mean, the chicken) is in compliance.
